CDC stated that the epidemic prevention of Vietnam has achieved positive results; accordingly Vietnam is no longer on the coronavirus community spread list. At the same time, the coronavirus is “literally knocking at the door” of every country.

On February 27, the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States held an online meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Health & Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).

At the meeting, representatives of the CDC and the Office of Global Affairs, the Asia-Pacific Office of the US Department of Health & Human Services highly evaluates Vietnam’s ability to address urgent public health issues, including emerging outbreaks of infectious diseases by taking comprehensive, drastic and thorough measures to deal with Covid-19. Based on the assessment of the actual situation, CDC decided to put Vietnam out of the coronavirus community spread list.

The CDC representative said that he is planning to visit Vietnam in the second half of March 2020 to promote health cooperation activities and establish of a regional CDC Office in Vietnam. The US Department of Health & Human Services is willing to support Vietnam by supplying trial kits and personal protective equipment for Vietnam to improve the country’s capacity of disease prevention.

As of February 27, more than 1,000 Vietnamese and 56 South Koreans were isolated at military units. According to Lieutenant General Tran Don, deputy minister of National Defense, the army has provided quarantined people with military living standards. Although it is not as convenient as at home or in a hotel, it is relatively acceptable and ensures particularly safe conditions of epidemiology.

Up to now, Daegu has reported over 1,000 confirmed cases and another 1,000 in isolation. Earlier, the public health center of Seo-gu in Daegu was shut off, as five of its staff were confirmed with Covid-19 over the weekend.
