TIMELY COPE WITH THE ACUTE RESPIRATORY DISEASE IN SOUTH KOREA
In regards to the coronavirus outbreak in South Korea, the Ministry of Health has officially implemented a mandatory medical declaration for passengers entering Vietnam from South Korea from 3 pm on February 23 at all border. Any cases of fever or cough will be quarantined, according to regulations.
Hoang Duc Hanh, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Health, proposed that Hanoi should take preventive measures to quarantine people from the epidemic area of South Korea. Specifically, visitors from the epicenter need to be self-quarantined for 14 days. He also asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to have more comments due to the problems related to foreigners.
For Vietnamese returning from the South Korean epicenter to Hanoi, the Hanoi Department of Health leaders proposed a 14-day quarantine. In addition, due to the large number of people, Hanh requested the Capital Command to organize the quarantine and the Department of Health to coordinate the health supervision. For all people coming back from abroad, especially in the epidemic countries, Hanh suggested that their communes and wards have to know their names and itineraries.

FOUR CHINESE PROVINCES LOWER COVID-19 EMERGENCY RESPONSE LEVEL
So far, four Chinese provinces, including Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Shanxi, lowered their coronavirus emergency response measures. China has a four-tier response system for public health emergencies that determines what measures it will implement, with level 1 the most serious.
On February 24, Yunnan and Guizhou cut their emergency response measures from level 1 to level 3, while Guangdong and Shanxi lowered their measures to level 2. Before that, Gansu province was the first to lower its measures on Friday, followed by Liaoning on Saturday.
The response comes in China’s effective handling of the epidemic. The number of new infected cases in China, especially in the epicenter of Hubei, has recently dropped sharply. China's National Health Commission reported an additional 150 deaths and 409 new confirmed cases as of February 23.
ITALY RACES TO CONTAIN COVID-19 OUTBREAK
Italy sealed off heavily affected towns and banned public gatherings in most of the northern regions to prevent the spread of nCoV. In particular, the governments of Lombardy and Veneto, where the Covid-19 epidemic broke out and are showing signs of strong spread, have closed schools and universities for at least a week, as well as museums and cinemas, and canceled the final two days of Venice Carnival.
From February 21 to February 22, the number of nCoV infections in Lombardy increased from 54 to 90, while Veneto recorded 25 cases. Health officials say they have quarantined infected and suspected cases in nearby Piedmont and Emilia Romagna areas. More than 10 towns in Lombardy and Veneto with a population of about 50,000 people have been placed in quarantine. Locals are required not to leave their home and must obtain a permit if they want to enter or exit certain designated areas.
Universities in most areas of northern Italy will be closed until early March and four football matches in the Serie A, scheduled to take place on February 23, have been delayed. Italian authorities are struggling to identify the original source of the outbreak. The first new cases were announced on February 21 and doctors still do not know the original source of the outbreak.
