Phra Nakhon district in Bangkok is home to famous tourist attractions in Thailand, such as Wat Pho temple and Khao San road. This place has gained more attention after the news that marijuana has been legalized and sold on Khao San road for tourists.
However, Phra Nakhon District Police Chief Wasan Boonmuenwai said street vendors selling marijuana or marijuana products are illegal and will be prosecuted. Smokers can also be fined on the spot.
Street stalls selling cannabis and cannabis products in Thailand are illegal, and even tourists can be prosecuted.
According to Mr. Wasan Boonmuenwai, the police force will increase patrols in the Khao San area day and night in the coming time. Previously, 4 shops on Khao San Road were discovered selling cannabis products.
Yada Pornpetrampa, a representative of Khao San Road vendors, said legalizing marijuana would do more harm than good to the local tourism industry. Khao San’s tourism image could be negatively affected, with stories of tourists tired of smoking marijuana circulating on social media; or families not going to Khao San anymore because of concerns about children being exposed to toxic substances.
