Fragrance enthusiasts conclude: "Guerlain is Paris and Paris is Guerlain." In the world of fragrances, Guerlain is hailed as the epitome of French perfumery, a perfumer and inventor of many important fragrance masterpieces that have marked turning points in contemporary perfume history.

Guerlain is the oldest perfume house in France. Founded in 1828, Guerlain has nearly 200 years of history and has flourished brilliantly.
France is the cradle of contemporary fragrance. Mentioning perfume immediately brings to mind France. In fact, we have a clear, distinct, and unmistakable concept of French fragrance style. Nowhere else but Paris do fragrance lovers witness countless global perfume houses converging, shining, and flourishing. Even domestic perfume houses, once in a position of dominance, are now struggling to compete and showcase their beauty alongside international names.
Indeed, nowhere is there a world of fragrance quite like this, so fiercely beautiful. Nearly two centuries of perfumery, Guerlain has witnessed the highs and lows of its Made In France partner perfumers. Many illustrious names from the past, when recalled now, are truly a form of remembrance.

Guerlain, a perfumery family spanning five generations, has been dedicated to perfecting the "nose" of French perfumery, the eighth art form of contemporary design. They have become an invincible, irreplaceable fragrance house, with many historically significant perfumes that are timeless and profoundly influential on many of the famous scents we know and love today.
Most importantly, Shalimar – Guerlain's iconic perfume – is a classic fragrance for women that is immensely popular with all genders. Launched in 1924, when Europe was captivated and sentimental by the childish love story of Romeo and Juliet, Shalimar passionately and powerfully embodies the royal love of the Thousand and One Nights. Its vanilla base, blended with bergamot, flowers, wood, and spices, makes Shalimar intensely fragrant, faithful, layered, and distinctive. It was the first fragrance created in the Oriental perfume style.
From then until forever, Western fragrances were no longer confined to a clear floral-woody scent; true fragrances transformed into stories – symphony of unpredictable ups and downs, constructed from countless subtle, diverse, and elaborate scent components. From the royal perfume houses that specially designed exclusive fragrances for European royalty, Guerlain continued to break geographical boundaries, connecting the West with the East through the timeless masterpiece Shalimar, along with the previous peak fragrance Mitsouko, and most recently, the trio of Oud Khôl, Cherry Oud, and Oud Nude.

Continuing with Guerlain Vetiver, launched in 1959, it is recognized as the most famous and beloved vetiver-based fragrance in perfumery history. Countless fragrances with the simple and unassuming name "Vetiver" that are loved and admired worldwide have drawn inspiration from the iconic Guerlain Vetiver.
In 1965, Guerlain surprised all of Europe with Habit Rouge, the first fragrance recognized as an Oriental-style scent for men, and also the most popular and frequently worn men's fragrance among Western women in the history of perfumery. From this point on, the movement for gender equality in fragrance matured. Beauty officially has no gender, but is offered to all.
Currently, collectors recognize over 400 fragrance creations from the Guerlain family. Many of Guerlain's works, especially the three representatives mentioned above, are still "alive," shining brightly and profoundly influencing the souls of contemporary perfumers. Continuing the brilliant legacy of Guerlain, the fifth generation, an "outsider" yet sharing the same emotional pulse as Guerlain, is the master perfumer Thierry Wasser.

One autumn day in Hanoi, fragrance enthusiasts had the opportunity to meet Thierry Wasser in person at the opening of Guerlain's first store in the Old Quarter. Surprisingly, he was completely different from the typical "French-style" artist. Thierry Wasser was warm, humorous, sharp, open, and especially fluent in the global language of English when sharing his thoughts on the art of smell.

Sharing the same spirit as the Guerlain fragrance house, Thierry Wasser's perspective transcends the "local" boundaries of France. He is a passionate worker, dedicated to creating fragrances in solitude, wholeheartedly trusting his colleagues, and obsessed with the quality of his ingredients. Enthusiastically comparing himself to a film director, but often to a chef, Thierry Wasser pays particular attention to the quality of his raw materials. He frequently travels to Guerlain's fragrance farms, personally inspecting and supervising orchid farms in Madagascar to collect vanilla pods, traversing the wild vetiver fields of Haiti to ensure the quality of the vetiver grass imbued with the essence of nature, going to Borneo, Indonesia to collect the finest patchouli essential oil, and venturing to Australia to obtain legally sourced sandalwood essential oil…
“I inherited this habit from my ‘father,’ Jean-Paul Guerlain. He was literally the Indiana Jones of the fragrance world. He spent his entire life traveling the world in search of ‘living’ ingredients. This is a skill – a special ability that makes Guerlain fragrances not only fragrant but also capable of nurturing emotions and connecting souls.”

Thierry Wasser was fortunate to be mentored and trusted by the fourth-generation "nose" of Guerlain, and as Jean-Paul Guerlain revealed, "we found each other." He inherited Guerlain's fragrant legacy and continued to take Guerlain to new heights with the L'Art Et La Matiére project.

In addition to its timeless heritage fragrances, Guerlain has created an exclusive fragrance collection called L'Art Et La Matiére.

L'Art Et La Matiére, literally translated as Art and Material, refers to the balance, harmony, and fundamental importance of two elements – the raw materials – for successfully creating a perfect fragrance: the Art of Fragrance. L'Art Et La Matiére fragrances demand the finest possible ingredients. Therefore, these rare and precious perfumes are not often seen; only a few globally qualified Guerlain perfume houses have the opportunity to display L'Art Et La Matiére, including the Guerlain Hanoi store.

Throughout the L'Art Et La Matiére series, fragrance lovers clearly and vividly recognize the spirit of Guerlain blending with the spirit of the times through new creations, and the appreciation of Guerlain's creative achievements through the exquisite revival of previously discontinued high-end fragrances. Above all, thanks to its respect for "living" natural ingredients and masterful perfumery, the L'Art & La Matiére fragrances are exquisite, rich in color, and worthy of being called memorable works of art.
Some of the standout fragrances in the L'Art & La Matiére collection include Néroli Outrenoir, featuring elegant white flowers and black tea; Musc Outreblanc, with its pure leather scent; Cherry Oud, with its passionate allure of oud and cherry liqueur; Tobacco Honey, with its intoxicating blend of honey and tobacco; and Spiritueuse Double Vanille, with its passionate blend of vanilla infused in rum, an outstanding contemporary vanilla-based fragrance…
Heritage connects heritage; Guerlain perfumes are enduringly beautiful and more desirable than ever in a world of fragrant blossoms that span the past, present, and future.
