According to the airline, the in-flight Wi-Fi Internet connection service will be deployed on wide-body aircraft. Vietnam Airlines will deploy this service from October 10 on 4 of its A350-900 aircraft and will proceed to deploy it on other wide-body aircraft.
Thus, for the first time in Vietnam, passengers can use Wifi to connect to the Internet on some flights operated by Vietnam Airlines. This is an important step for the National Airline on the roadmap to apply digital technology to products and services to increase customer experience, gradually moving towards international 5-star quality and aiming to become a Digital Airlines.
Passengers can experience Wifi service on some Airbus A350 aircraft operated by Vietnam Airlines on routes between Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City/Shanghai/Osaka and Ho Chi Minh City - Osaka/Singapore.
In-flight Wifi service will work best for sending text messages on popular applications such as Viber, iMessage, Messenger, Whatsapp..., suitable for passengers who need to exchange information frequently during the flight.
Providing the service is an effort of Vietnam Airlines to anticipate the development trend of world aviation, when many 5-star airlines are also implementing similar services such as Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Lufthansa,...
With prices ranging from 2.95 - 29.95 USD (equivalent to 75,000 - 735,000 VND), Vietnam Airlines passengers can choose between packages with different usage times and capacity levels, up to a maximum of 80 MB.
Passengers register for the package and pay for the service by paying online via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB or Diners Club credit card after the plane reaches a stable altitude.
The subscribed package can be used on different devices but cannot be used simultaneously on multiple devices, with the validity remaining until the flight ends.
In the coming time, the airline will continue to research to upgrade and expand services on other Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 aircraft with increasingly better access speeds.
To help passengers know that flights have Wifi service, Vietnam Airlines will notify passengers at the airport check-in counter, place a service identification board at the boarding gate, arrange service instruction leaflets in the front seat pocket on the plane and make announcements via loudspeakers on the flight.
For now, from October to the end of December 2019, Vietnam Airlines will give each passenger 30 minutes of free Wifi usage for the in-flight messaging service package.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines was also the pioneer in providing wireless-streaming entertainment services on its Airbus A321neo fleet, allowing passengers to access movies and music on their personal electronic devices.
