6 DIY Desserts That Bring Good Luck for the New Year

This Tet holiday, try making your own desserts from pomegranates, watermelons, and red beans to bring good luck to your guests at the start of the new year.

 

1. Watermelon Soda

Ingredients (enough for approximately 4-6 people)

- 1/2 medium-sized watermelon

- 1 lemon

- 50 g sugar

- 120 ml water

- 4 cans of soda

- Ice cubes.

 

2. Coconut Nuggets

Ingredients: for 50 small coconut cookies (about the size of a small apple)

- Fresh shredded coconut: 500 g, dried and crumbled.

- Egg whites: 100 g (4 large eggs)

- Granulated sugar: 70 g

- Salt: 1/3 teaspoon

- Tartar (used to whip egg whites): 1/4 teaspoon (or 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice).

 

3. Red bean and rice noodle dessert

Ingredient:

- Red bean portion: 1 small bowl of red beans, salt, sugar

- For the rice noodle dessert: 30g rice flour, 30g tapioca flour, salt, 1 teaspoon slaked lime, pandan leaf extract (extract the juice).

- Coconut milk sauce: 300 ml canned coconut milk, half a teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons of tapioca starch or cornstarch.

- Roasted peanuts, coarsely crushed.

 

4. Pomegranate and lemon juice

Ingredient:

- Pomegranate

- Yellow lemons or green lemons?

- Dosage can be adjusted according to your preference.

 

5. Mung bean milk

Ingredient:

- 300 g hulled mung beans

- 1/4 cup white granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

- Half a teaspoon of salt

- 1 bunch of pandan leaves

- Fresh milk and ice

- If you want it to be richer, you can add half a small packet of coconut milk powder (available at supermarkets or at the dry goods and spice counter in the market).

 

6. Green Tea Chiffon Cake

Ingredients: for a 20 cm center mold and 2 small 5 cm chiffon cups

 

* Egg yolk mixture:

- Egg yolks: 6

- Fresh milk: 100 ml

- Green tea powder: 20 g

- Vanilla: 5 ml

- Salt: 1 teaspoon

- Cornstarch: 75 g

- Wheat flour: 75 g

 

* Egg white mixture:

- Egg whites: 6 eggs

- Sugar: 110 g

- Tartar: 1 teaspoon

 

* Green tea ice cream:

- Fresh cream: 200 g

- Green tea powder: Mix 10g with 10ml of warm water and let cool.

- Salt: 2 g

- Sugar: 20 g
