Today, sustainable travel is no longer a luxury trend, but has become a necessity. According to the Sustainable Travel Report 2024, up to 75% of global travelers want to choose sustainable forms of travel within the next 12 months. These numbers not only reflect a trend, but also a clear message: the vacation of the future needs to be shaped by sophistication, harmony and humanity.
Green resort space at An Lam Retreats Saigon River.
For An Lam Retreats Saigon River, sustainable development was considered early on. Established in 2010, the resort began to apply environmentally friendly principles in its design and operations, at a time when the concept of “green tourism” was still quite new in Vietnam. Elements such as natural building materials and operating procedures that minimize impact on the ecosystem were implemented in an approach inspired by natural cycles.
“Natural Circle” revolves around indigenous design and materials
From the very beginning, the resort chose materials such as wood, stone, rattan and ceramics not only for aesthetic reasons but also to match the surrounding natural environment. The solar hot water system is integrated with smart control technology to reduce energy consumption and limit environmental impact. In the Water Bar area, drinking water is treated and filtered on site, served in reusable glass bottles. This solution helps to significantly reduce the number of single-use plastic bottles used each year.
In a context where the resort industry is increasingly under pressure to use resources efficiently, placing natural elements at the center is not only aesthetic, but also a strategic orientation.
The villas here are all designed using environmentally friendly materials, creating a feeling of being one with nature.
“Experience Circle” encourages green lifestyle practices
From the lush organic garden, the green living philosophy has gradually become a natural part of daily life here. Vegetables are grown and cared for right in the resort, contributing to providing fresh, clean and seasonal food. Local ingredients are carefully selected, combined with simple processing methods, retaining the original flavor. Leftover food is not wasted but composted into fertilizer, returning to nourish the garden. Each meal is therefore not only a taste experience, but also part of the cycle connecting people and nature.
The farm-to-table model preserves the fresh flavors and natural closeness in every dish.
The farm-to-table concept with seasonal menus gives guests the opportunity to experience the changes of the earth and sky through each dish. Vegetables are harvested in season and processed minimally to retain their natural, familiar flavors. In that simplicity lies a larger reflection: eating can also be a humane way to connect with nature.
Continuing that spirit, Regen Lab is built as a sustainable experience space, where the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is put into practice creatively. Used items – from plastic bottles, old bed sheets to discarded clothes – are “reborn” into hanging gardens, cloth bags or handmade toys. Children learn how to recycle naturally through games, while adults find relaxation in small but meaningful actions. Regen Lab is therefore not only a living corner in the resort, but also a place where green living habits are planted so that they can follow visitors back and continue in daily life.
From the very beginning, the resort has built a close relationship with the local community. Vegetables, seafood and handicrafts are all harvested and processed by the hands of farmers and artisans around the area. Scented candles and simple soaps not only contribute to the experience but also carry a shared story. All profits from these products are donated to support a local shelter that cares for orphans and lonely elderly people.
At An Lam, each individual joins hands to preserve the green and clean space, nurturing and spreading the spirit of sustainable living.
This connection goes beyond just creating a livelihood, it extends to a lifestyle. Amidst the pure natural space, visitors can find balance through activities such as yoga, meditation, spa treatments, or intimate classes such as making coconut oil and recycled soap.
Health care and treatment programs bring many practical values, contributing to improving physical fitness and healthy living awareness for the community.
Over the past 15 years, it has built a cohesive lifestyle, helping visitors not only find peace but also contribute to the sustainable development of the community. As sustainability becomes a global trend, it continues to demonstrate a long-term development approach that balances responsibility and practical values.
