The Ascott Limited (Ascott) in Vietnam, a serviced apartment management group owned by CapitaLand, recently shared highlights of its 2017 nationwide corporate social responsibility campaign titled “Reaching out, touching hearts”.

Accordingly, in 2017, units in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City organized more than 50 local-scale activities in Vietnam, dedicated over 3,000 volunteer hours, and raised nearly 1 billion VND.

Ms. Lew Yen Ping, General Manager for Vietnam, expressed her delight at the company's achievements in 2017: “We are delighted to have received such enthusiastic support from our esteemed guests, residents, and colleagues in Vietnam, and I would like to thank everyone for dedicating their time and effort to this charitable event. By donating essential supplies, we hope to improve the lives of those in need. This is part of our company's ongoing commitment to the community.”

In line with CapitaLand's corporate social responsibility activities, Ascott Vietnam primarily focuses on initiatives supporting the educational, healthcare, and housing needs of disadvantaged children, while also investing in environmental management, hoping to create positive changes in resource conservation for future generations.

Ascott believes that by engaging with children's lives during their early development, the company can create a multiplier effect and bring about positive changes in their adulthood, as well as in their family lives and the communities around them.

Since the beginning of 2017, the total amount of money raised for the charity fund is 650 million VND (equivalent to 28,800 USD). This money has been used to improve the quality of education and living conditions for more than 2,300 poor children and disadvantaged families in the provinces of Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Binh Phuoc, Long An, and Ho Chi Minh City. This charitable activity also received donations from Ascott employees and residents living and working in buildings in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Key activities include the "For a Brighter Tomorrow" program. Through various campaigns, including the annual charity fair, car wash campaign, and other fundraising activities, management and staff not only invest in raising community awareness but also strive to maintain enthusiasm for volunteer work. This has resulted in significant contributions to improving recreational and learning conditions for children in remote areas of Nam Dinh, Hoa Binh, and Binh Phuoc provinces.

The 11th annual blood donation drive – “Share Blood, Save Lives” – was held in response to the World Health Organization’s annual campaign and received strong support from Ascott Group employees. A total of 185 units of blood were donated to the blood bank of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Aid to Damrey Typhoon Victims: When Typhoon Damrey devastated Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa) in November 2017, Ascott Vietnam joined hands in fundraising to support affected employees. In addition, the entire team launched a campaign among partners, customers, and residents to raise funds for the Khanh Hoa Red Cross. The donations were used to provide essential supplies such as water, clothing, toiletries, towels, canned goods, and food supplies for typhoon victims, and to support home repairs.

In terms of environmental management, going beyond the 3Rs (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) solution, Ascott Vietnam has implemented green measures to promote the protection of water, energy, and paper resources, as well as reduce waste generation. Key sustainability initiatives include the Ascott Earth Day program – allowing long-term residents to opt out of daily housekeeping services, installing water-saving fixtures in sanitary systems, using recyclable bins and eco-friendly bags, and shopping carts to reduce the use of single-use bags.

Ascott Vietnam has been awarded ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, meeting international standards for environmental management and occupational health management in businesses. The certifications were awarded by the international organization TÜV SÜD.
