13/02/2018

CapitaLand-owned serviced residence brand management group, The Ascott Limited (Ascott) in Vietnam has just shared the highlights of its 2017 corporate social responsibility campaign called “Reaching out, touching hearts” nationwide.

Accordingly, in 2017, units in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City organized more than 50 local-scale activities in Vietnam, spent more than 3,000 volunteer hours and raised nearly 1 billion VND, at the same time.

Vietnam Regional General Manager, Ms. Lew Yen Ping expressed her joy at the company’s efforts in 2017: “We are very pleased to receive enthusiastic support from our distinguished guests, residents and my colleagues in Vietnam, and I would like to thank everyone for their time and dedication to this charity event. By donating necessary items, we hope to improve the lives of the localities in need. This is part of our company’s continuous contributions to the community.”

In line with CapitaLand’s corporate social responsibility activities, Ascott Vietnam focuses on initiatives that support the education, healthcare and shelter needs of disadvantaged children, while investing in environmental stewardship, with the hope of creating changes in resource conservation for future generations.

Ascott believes that by touching the lives of children in their early stages of development, it can create a multiplier effect and bring about positive changes in their adulthood, as well as in their families and the communities around them.

Since the beginning of 2017, the total amount of money raised by the charity fund is VND650 million (equivalent to US$28,800). This amount is used to improve the quality of education and life for more than 2,300 poor children and disadvantaged households in the provinces of Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Binh Phuoc, Long An and Ho Chi Minh City. This charity activity also received donations from Ascott employees and residents living and working in buildings in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City.

The main activities include the “For a Brighter Tomorrow” program. Through many campaigns including the Annual Charity Fair, Car Wash Campaign and other fundraising activities, the management and staff not only invest in raising awareness in the community, but also strive to maintain the enthusiasm for participating in volunteer activities. This has made significant contributions to improving the playing and learning conditions for children in remote areas of Nam Dinh, Hoa Binh and Binh Phuoc provinces.

The 11th annual blood donation event - “Share Blood, Save Lives” - is a response to the World Health Organization’s annual campaign, which was actively supported by Ascott Group employees. A total of 185 units of blood were donated to the blood bank of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Aid for Typhoon Damrey Victims: When Typhoon Damrey devastated Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa) in November 2017, Ascott Vietnam joined hands to raise funds to support the affected staff. In addition, the team also launched a campaign for partners, customers and residents to raise funds for the Khanh Hoa Red Cross Society. The donations were used to provide essential living items such as water, clothes, toiletries, towels, canned goods, food reserves to the typhoon victims and to support their home repairs.

In terms of environmental management, going beyond the 3R (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) solutions, Ascott Vietnam has implemented green measures to promote the conservation of water, energy and paper resources, as well as limit the amount of waste discharged into the environment. Key sustainability initiatives include the Ascott Earth Day program - a program that allows long-term residents to opt out of daily housekeeping services, installing water-saving devices in the sanitary system, using recycling bins and eco-bags, shopping carts to limit the use of disposable bags.

Ascott Vietnam is certified to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, meeting international standards for environmental management and occupational health management of enterprises. The certification is awarded by the international organization TÜV SÜD.
