Given the complex natural disaster situation and the unprecedented level of damage caused by prolonged heavy rains and floods, on the afternoon of December 5, 2025, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province had to sign and issue a decision declaring a state of emergency due to natural disasters for a number of key transportation routes. This decision is not only an internal response but also a serious warning to the entire community, especially tourists and travel agencies planning to travel to Da Lat, the "City of a Thousand Flowers," and surrounding areas.
The most severely affected routes, which have been declared emergency routes, include National Highway 20, National Highway 27, National Highway 27C (the main artery connecting Da Lat and Nha Trang), National Highway 28, and most notably, Prenn Pass – the main and most familiar gateway to Da Lat city. The historic heavy rainfall from December 2nd to 4th caused widespread landslides, subsidence, and localized flooding, burying tens of thousands of cubic meters of soil and rocks on the roads. This resulted in traffic congestion and disruption in many areas, directly threatening the safety of people and vehicles.
For tourists, this situation requires particular attention. A major landslide has occurred at Km225+300 on the Prenn Pass (Km222+000 – Km228+000), with approximately 2,000 m³ of soil and rocks burying the road, completely blocking traffic. Travel to Da Lat by road via this pass is currently severely hampered, forcing vehicles to reroute or postpone their journeys. Tourist bus companies and private vehicles should closely monitor traffic diversion announcements from authorities and avoid deliberately entering the dangerous area.
Prolonged heavy rain has caused landslides, localized flooding, and serious damage to many national highways. In response to this situation, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has declared a state of emergency due to the natural disaster.
The severity of the natural disaster is not limited to the gateway to Da Lat but has spread to inter-regional routes, directly affecting the travel schedules of tourists from all over. National Highway 27C (Da Lat – Nha Trang) is completely cut off at Km65+700 due to a massive landslide, estimated at 3,000 m³. Tourist groups with itineraries between Da Lat and Nha Trang need to cancel or change their travel plans immediately.
According to the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, due to complex weather patterns and prolonged heavy rain, the aforementioned roads have experienced landslides on both embankment slopes, localized flooding, damage to bridge foundations and abutments, and damage to road safety systems, causing traffic congestion.
On National Highway 28, 20 landslide locations were recorded with a total volume of 15,000 m³. The location at Km44+650 was completely buried by 6,000 m³ of soil and rocks, causing traffic congestion and isolating the area.
Given the critical situation, the Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued an order requiring the Department of Construction and related units to urgently take action with the highest level of commitment, focusing on two main tasks: ensuring safety and temporarily restoring traffic flow.
The requirements include maintaining a 24/7 alert system, organizing traffic diversion, and strictly prohibiting people and vehicles (including tourist buses and private cars) from entering areas at high risk of landslides. This is a mandatory measure to ensure absolute safety. The authorities are also urgently mobilizing all resources and machinery to repair and temporarily reopen the road as soon as possible, minimizing disruption.
In response to the situation, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has requested the Department of Construction and related units to assign personnel to continuously monitor the current state of the landslide site and coordinate traffic diversion.
For tourists and the community, the declaration of this emergency situation sends a clear message: Safety comes first. Authorities recommend that tourists postpone non-essential trips to Lam Dong at this time. If travel is unavoidable, it is necessary to continuously update official information from the Department of Transport and the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Control Steering Committee, strictly adhere to traffic guidance and signs, and absolutely avoid attempting to cross landslide or flooded areas to prevent unfortunate accidents.
Lam Dong province is committed to making every effort to stabilize the transportation system as soon as possible, but for now, the proactiveness and vigilance of each tourist are key factors in ensuring a safe journey.
