Roadshow program to promote tourism in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

30/05/2017

Quoting Mr. Nam Kyeong-pil, chairman of Gyeonggi Province, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea, Gyeonggi Province was the first to organize a large-scale tourism promotion roadshow in Vietnam.

On this occasion, Gyeonggi Province announced the formation of a Gyeonggi Tourism Promotion Delegation, comprising 36 members from the Gyeonggi Provincial Tourism Promotion Bureau, relevant government agencies, and travel businesses. Accordingly, from May 28th to June 2nd, 2017, these units will collaborate to organize a series of events such as B2B meetings, tourism introduction seminars, and non-verbal art performances… to widely promote Gyeonggi's tourism resources, including film studios, theme parks, ski resorts, restaurant facilities, and accommodations, to travel businesses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Since the end of the MERS outbreak in 2015, Vietnam has been recognized as a potential tourism market, evidenced by its 54.5% growth rate, ranking second among international tourists visiting South Korea in 2016. Recognizing this potential, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government has been planning to exploit and develop the Vietnamese market following the Chinese government's ban on Chinese tourists visiting South Korea.

Based on this, on May 30th and June 1st, Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) in Vietnam, will promote meetings with Vietnamese tourism businesses and media through activities such as B2B meetings and the Gyeonggi-Vietnam Friendship Night in the two major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. At the workshop, the Korea Tourism Organization in Vietnam will also present tourism product themes to encourage Vietnamese tourism companies to develop in the second half of 2017, along with the support that KTO will provide to its partners.

At upcoming B2B meetings, the Gyeonggi Tourism delegation will meet with travel businesses in Vietnam to introduce the province's tourism resources and discuss ways to enhance substantive cooperation in building support networks, developing, and selling tourism products.

Immediately after the Roadshow concludes, a reality TV show showcasing Gyeonggi tourism, featuring the family of artist Huy Khánh, will be broadcast in Vietnam. Through this, Gyeonggi Province hopes the program will serve as a bridge connecting Vietnamese tourists to visit famous landmarks in the region.

To implement this program, on May 10th, Gyeonggi Province contacted and officially invited the family of artist Huy Khánh to Gyeonggi to film the Korean version of the program "Oh My Baby!". The original version was broadcast on HTV2 and VTVCA1, achieving a viewership rating of 2.1% (in Ho Chi Minh City), and received positive feedback from Vietnamese audiences. Simultaneously, through this Roadshow program, Gyeonggi Province hopes to widely introduce its tourism resources to partner organizations and Vietnamese tourists.
