To realize its goal of welcoming 47 million international tourists by 2026, the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board is aggressively implementing promotional campaigns in Vietnam. The centerpiece is a series of three special fam trips for travel businesses, the press, and KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), aimed at showcasing unique travel experiences and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Vietnam - A key market for Malaysian tourism.

In preparation for the Malaysia Tourism Year 2026 (VM2026), the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board is intensifying its promotional activities in the Vietnamese market with three Famtrip programs specifically designed for travel businesses, the press, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).

Each survey trip is designed to highlight a unique strength of Malaysian tourism, from luxury cruise experiences and exploring pristine nature to learning about local culture and immersing oneself in the vibrant atmosphere of urban centers. The main objective is to expand cooperation and diversify tourism products between the two countries.

With the participation of 20 Vietnamese media representatives and KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), the program showcased new highlights in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to promote the destination's image and contribute to increasing the number of Vietnamese tourists in the VM2026 period and subsequent years.

The Malaysia Tourism Board, in collaboration with Vietjet Air, organized a fam trip from November 20-22 to celebrate the launch of the direct flight route between Da Nang and Kuala Lumpur.

The opening of the new route also increases the total number of flights between Vietnam and Malaysia to 179 per week, creating a significant advantage for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism and short trips, allowing visitors to explore the Malaysian capital and its new attractions, from its creative hub to its distinctive cuisine, in just over two hours. Thanks to its extensive and flexible flight network, Kuala Lumpur has become a "gateway to Southeast Asia" for Vietnamese tourists, and a convenient starting point for Malaysian visitors to popular tourist cities in Vietnam.

Furthermore, opportunities for developing the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) long-term residency program are also wide open, attracting an increasing number of Vietnamese families and professionals interested in the safe living environment, reasonable costs, and quality international education system in Malaysia.

Impressive growth and a sustainable vision.

These promotional activities are being implemented against the backdrop of continued stable growth in two-way tourism between Vietnam and Malaysia. As of August 2025, Malaysia had welcomed 236,918 Vietnamese tourists, while Vietnam recorded 205,601 Malaysian tourists.

The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board expects this series of fam trips to open up many new opportunities for cooperation, helping tourism businesses design product packages that better suit the diverse needs of Vietnamese tourists.

Malaysia Tourism Year 2026 sets ambitious targets of over 47 million international visitors and RM329 billion in revenue. With the theme “Surreal Experiences,” VM2026 aims to develop sustainable, high-quality tourism, maximizing the country's rich natural and cultural heritage.

Through this series of experiences in Vietnam, Malaysia continues to affirm its desire to become a friendly, welcoming, and attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists, while also strengthening tourism cooperation between the two countries.
