1. Shopping is one of the most profitable sectors in the Malaysian tourism industry, included in the National Key Economic Area (NKEA) program with 12 Entry Point ProjectsEntry Point Projects(EPPs). Three of these relate to procurement:

2. In 2015, shopping spending contributed 21.6 billion Malaysian Ringgit (RM), equivalent to 31.3% of the total 69.1 billion RM tourism receipts. This was also the first time that shopping surpassed accommodation to become the largest component of national tourism income.
