18/02/2014

On February 17, 2014, at the Vietnam Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi), the rain-praying festival of the Cor ethnic group in Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province took place within the framework of activities at the "Spring Colors in All Regions of the Country" Festival.

In the system of rituals of the Cor ethnic group in Quang Nam, the rain-praying ceremony is an important ritual that has existed for a long time, every time there is a prolonged drought.

During the ceremony, the whole village participates and the village elder plays the role of the master of ceremonies, praying for favorable weather, good crops, a prosperous village, full yards of pigs and chickens, sons as strong as the oak or chestnut trees, and daughters as gentle as streams and rivers.

“The rain-praying festival of the Cor ethnic group is conducted with indoor worship rituals first, then outdoor worship. Offerings include: pork, chicken, wine, dot leaf cakes, bamboo-tube rice, cooked sticky rice and boiled cassava. In addition, the offerings cannot lack dried products such as porcupines or squirrels,” said the master of ceremonies, Ho Van Nghia.

The rain-praying festival of the Cor ethnic group has an important meaning in the spiritual life of the Cor people in Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province, contributing to connecting people with gods, while contributing to preserving and conserving the beauty in the culture of ethnic minority communities in general and the Cor people in particular.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dao (Quoc Oai, Hanoi), a tourist who came to visit the festival, said: This is the first time I have seen a unique and attractive festival of the Cor people in Quang Ngai right in the capital Hanoi without having to travel far. At the same time, he also hopes that the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism will re-enact more ethnic festivals so that people across the country can visit and learn about the cultural beauty of ethnic groups across the country.
