Overview of the Home-sharing business market in Vietnam
The history of tourism has seen many changes. As the world continues to evolve, so does the way we live, work and travel. The sharing economy continues to gain momentum and with it, the concept of homesharing has brought exciting new directions to the tourism industry in general and the accommodation industry in particular.
In the Vietnamese market, home sharing services began appearing in 2014 and have grown strongly each year. According to Grant Thornton, in 2016, Airbnb had only 6,500 apartments/rooms for rent (listings) in Vietnam, but in 2017, Airbnb's supply increased 2.5 times with more than 16,000 apartments/rooms for rent (listings), mainly concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

This accommodation sharing service has not only become a prominent trend for the accommodation service industry but also for the real estate market. One of the differences of home-sharing in the Vietnamese market is that the number of Multi-listing hosts (people who own more than 1 apartment/room for rent) accounts for 69%. This proves that home-sharing in Vietnam is not simply a accommodation sharing service but also a new form of accommodation business.
Managing multiple Home-sharing (Multi-host): Opportunity or Challenge?
Nowadays, home-sharing service in Vietnam is not simply taking advantage of renting out idle rooms but has changed into a real form of business investment. The number of individual investors participating in this business market is increasing with not only one apartment/room but also a chain of many apartments/rooms for rent at the same time.
However, not all hosts understand the challenges they face when managing multiple home-sharing properties on different platforms at the same time. When an account has 3, 5 or even 10 rooms/apartments in different locations, there will be problems such as how to balance the number of bookings for all properties, or bad feedback about one property will affect all the remaining properties. Besides, using many different management platforms sometimes will inevitably lead to overlapping booking schedules.

So how to take advantage of this potential business opportunity most effectively? Understanding the concerns of investors and hosts in Vietnam, Outbox Consulting is pleased to bring a Workshop with the topic“Home-sharing business in Vietnam: How to be a winner in Multi-Host Challenge?”.
