Do Vietnamese people choose to travel or buy a car?

Recently, Booking.com announced the results of its global “Back to Travel” survey of over 28,000 travelers from 28 countries and territories, showing that travel surpassed other priorities in 2021.

When asked about what they wanted to experience this year, 69% of Vietnamese tourists chose a relaxing vacation, while only 31% chose "finding true love." This number increased to 75% for Thai tourists and 71% for Japanese tourists.

Furthermore, 63% of Vietnamese tourists would choose a trip over the opportunity to buy a new car, compared to only 37%. These figures indicate that the desire for material possessions is not as strong when compared to the need for spiritual experiences.

The desire for travel is further demonstrated by the fact that 57% of Vietnamese people chose a vacation over career advancement. In previous decades, travel was still considered by many Vietnamese to be a waste of money and lacked sustainable value. As society progresses, negative stereotypes about travel are gradually disappearing, and we are more comfortable deciding whether to save or spend our money. Instead of focusing too much on personal finances, modern citizens are aiming for a healthy and happy life.

When travel resumed, the experiences most anticipated by tourists, topping the list with 37% of Vietnamese travelers, were the distinctive "scent" of the holiday.

Travel experiences leave a lasting impression on many tourists, from fashion to entertainment. Accordingly, 15% of Vietnamese travelers yearn for the opportunity to dress up for their trips, and 36% tend to dream of a romantic getaway; they seek not just a destination, but also a place to meet their soulmate.

Surprisingly, amidst the Covid-19 lockdown, travelers are excited to re-experience some of the less-than-pleasant aspects of a trip: 24% of Vietnamese travelers want to re-try dishes they didn't enjoy the first time they tried them.

The challenge and joy of overcoming language barriers when communicating with locals is an unexpected travel experience that 24% of Vietnamese tourists remember.

20% of Vietnamese travelers remember killing time at the airport while waiting for departure, compared to 28% of Korean travelers and 26% of Singaporean travelers... For the majority, this is still a boring and tiring time; however, new trends show that travelers have become more creative during the waiting period, finding new activities to alleviate boredom.

According to Booking.com, even though travel plans have been put on hold, travelers can't stop reminiscing about past experiences. This shows that travel has become a top priority, and many people want to explore destinations and experience different cultures when the time permits.
