Chinese tourists cause chaos at tourist destinations.

Many tourist attractions in China are experiencing overcrowding and disorder due to the surge in travel demand following the social distancing measures implemented because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to SCMP, on June 14, the management of Mount Tai (Shandong, China) apologized for poor management that led to thousands of tourists being stranded for hours at the cable car waiting area.

"We sincerely apologize for the inadequate service and management. Some areas of the tourist site are undergoing upgrades and repairs, causing unnecessary inconvenience to visitors," a representative of the tourist site shared with the news agency.

Previously, images and videos circulating on social media showed tourists crowding and shouting at the tourist area. The management explained that this situation occurred when six ticket gates at the Zhongtianmen cable car area were temporarily closed so that staff could prevent tourists from entering the restricted tourist area.

Specifically, the incident began around 8:00 AM on April 13th when thousands of people flocked to the Mount Tai historical site. Due to the overwhelming number of visitors, the cable car ticket booths were unable to handle the crowds effectively, causing prolonged congestion.

The situation became complicated when many tourists climbed over the barriers and squeezed their way to the ticket counters. Others surrounded the shuttle buses, preventing them from leaving the stop.

The management system was unable to resolve the chaotic situation, necessitating the intervention of local authorities. In addition, the management increased the number of shuttle buses and simplified ticket procedures to meet the needs of tourists promptly. By 10:00 AM the same day, the situation was temporarily under control.

The country's Ministry of Culture and Tourism estimates that approximately 90 million domestic trips were made during this year's Dragon Boat Festival, double the number in 2020. As a result, crowded tourist destinations and scenic spots are occurring in many places.
