Trends in vacations and wellness after Covid.

25/08/2022

If you feel stressed and completely drained by a hectic schedule, you're not alone! More than ever, the need for a healthy lifestyle and self-care time is high, especially after waves of the pandemic.

Lumina Retreats, a luxury wellness retreat provider founded by Luminary Wellness, a company specializing in health and wellness consulting and management, conducted a survey among its clients to gauge their needs and preferences in the areas of body, mind, and spirit care and wellness travel, with the aim of designing suitable retreats for the future. With over 2,000 participants, the results reflect current trends in the Vietnamese market.

Notably, 85% of those surveyed stated that they had never participated in an intensive wellness retreat. This indicates significant potential for the growth of this service in the future.

The era of self-care is upon us.

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021 led to months-long periods of social distancing, forcing people to change their lifestyles and habits to adapt, and simultaneously altering their perspectives on life values. Many realized the importance of self-care and also dedicated more time to their inner world. When asked what they wished for to achieve a more balanced life, 26% of survey participants indicated they wanted more joy and relaxation in their daily lives, and 17% wanted to focus more on spiritual and mental development.

Healthy nutrition and nutritional knowledge are also of great interest to many people. However, guests also shared that they have little time to learn about or cook healthy meals due to their busy schedules. Healthy cuisine, rich in fruits and vegetables, or vegetarian options are factors that guests consider most when choosing a relaxing vacation; 95% of guests want to have nutritional education during their holiday.

Vacation – where will you go?

72% of survey participants still choose resorts that suit their needs and budget, ranging from 3-4 star resorts to high-end 5-star resorts, for their personal or family vacations. Other trending options such as camping, glamping, and intensive treatment courses received fewer votes.

Up to 85% of survey participants had never attended a wellness retreat. When asked about what they wanted to experience, 35% wanted nutritious, healthy meals, meditation sessions, and activities in nature. Visitors preferred activities that combined personal care treatments with group activities. Healthy food and knowledge were also top concerns, along with mindfulness activities such as yoga and meditation. Importantly, the natural environment was essential for a truly relaxing experience, completely detached from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
