Trends in relaxation and health care after Covid

25/08/2022

If you feel stressed and completely drained of energy due to your busy schedule, you are not alone! The need for healthy living and self-care time is greater than ever, especially after the waves of the pandemic.

Lumina Retreats - a luxury wellness retreat organizer founded by Luminary Wellness, a healthcare consulting and management company, conducted a survey with customers about their needs and interests in the field of body-mind-spirit care and resort tourism to design suitable vacations in the future. With more than 2,000 survey participants, the results partly reflect current trends in the Vietnamese market.

It is worth noting that 85% of the surveyed guests said they had never participated in an intensive wellness retreat. This shows that there is still a lot of potential for this service to grow strongly in the future.

The Age of Self-Care

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021 led to months of social distancing, forcing people to change their lifestyles and living habits to adapt, and at the same time, change their perspective on life values. Many people realize the importance of self-care, and also spend more time on their inner world. When asked about what they want to add to their lives to help balance life, 26% of survey participants said they want more joy and relaxation in their daily lives, and 17% want to focus on developing their mental and spiritual aspects more.

Healthy nutrition and nutritional knowledge are also of interest to many people. However, guests also share that they have little time to learn about or cook healthy meals due to their busy schedules. Healthy cuisine, with lots of vegetables or vegetarian cuisine, is a factor that guests care about when choosing a vacation; 95% of guests want to have nutritional education information during their vacation.

Holiday travel – where will you go?

72% of survey participants still choose resorts that suit their needs and budget, from 3-4 stars to high-end 5-star resorts for their own or family vacations. Other trendy options such as picnics, glamping, intensive therapy courses, etc. received fewer votes.

Up to 85% of the survey participants had never attended a wellness retreat. When asked what they wanted to experience, 35% wanted healthy meals, meditation sessions, and activities in nature. Travelers preferred activities that combined personal care with group activities. Healthy food and knowledge were also top concerns; along with mindfulness activities such as yoga, meditation, etc. In particular, the natural element is indispensable to bring a truly relaxing experience, completely separate from busy daily life.

Grasping the new and potential elements of wellness tourism in the domestic market, Lumina has designed resort levels - body-mind-spirit care (Wellness Spectrum) for each customer's different wellness needs and experiences; from Relaxation - Inspiration, to Transformation and Intensive levels. Each journey is designed to guide guests through each transformation step, helping them activate their own potential.

Family, friends, or lover?

Worldwide, the trend of traveling alone is quite popular. However, domestic tourists seem to be more inclined towards family and group travel. 37% said that they like to travel with their family the most, followed by 33% who choose to travel with their partner. This information helps Lumina and other tour operators consider designing suitable programs, with more group activities while still helping guests discover their inner world of happiness.

More than 50% of respondents said that the biggest difficulties they face in family and romantic relationships are how to understand, love and care for each other more, as well as not having enough time to spend with loved ones. In families, the generation gap also makes it difficult for parents and children to communicate effectively, especially in the context of traditional societies that value general harmony over individual expression.

Relaxation - Health care on luxury cruises

The concept of wellness retreat is still quite new to the majority of Vietnamese tourists, so this type of tourism has a lot of potential to develop in the future. Lumina Retreats is a pioneer in designing and organizing high-end health care and resort programs, suitable for many different customer groups.

Currently, Lumina Retreats organizes two 3-day, 2-night wellness retreat itineraries on luxury cruise ships: Halong Wellness Cruise on the peaceful Ha Long Bay, and Mekong Wellness Cruise down the rich Mekong River. These two retreats, with the level of Resort - Relaxation, are the ideal way for guests to learn about the concept of wellness, evoking joy through exciting activities amidst the vast nature. On these itineraries, guests are both on vacation and learning more about wellness through attractive activities: yoga, meditation, health - nutrition - self-discovery workshops, sightseeing... helping to relieve stress, completely immerse themselves in the free and open atmosphere, regain balance and recharge with fresh energy.
