Crickets are a popular food in many Asian and African countries. This food has been shown to be rich in protein and contains many other nutrients.
Since July, Zipair, an airline based in Tokyo, Japan, has been offering passengers a choice of meals made from insects.

The airline's statement said: "All the meal components contain cricket powder, Gryllus bimaculatus. By consuming a protein-rich alternative source, the use of cricket powder in food preparation can have positive impacts on the environment and climate."
The restaurant is serving burgers and pasta. Both dishes contain cricket powder. These items must be ordered in advance and cost approximately $17.50 per serving.
Zipair has partnered with Gryllus Food Technology to serve this unique meal to passengers. The airline began taking orders for the meal in July and so far has received no complaints.

Mark Matsumoto, a spokesperson for Zipair, said, “We have received over 60 orders for these two meals since their launch on July 1st. As part of our sustainability commitment, we have partnered with Gryllus to provide eco-friendly meal options, helping to reduce food waste on an international scale.”
Additionally, passengers can also pre-order these meals on flights from Narita Airport, Japan to Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, Honolulu, and Los Angeles (USA).
