Command Post - A bridge connecting glorious memories and a peaceful present.

The heart of the tourist area is the Command Cave, a special historical site that once served as the command base of the 559th Command during the most intense years of the resistance war. Located deep within the primeval forest, the cave has been vividly reconstructed into a seven-story interconnected space, fully simulating various departments such as logistics, medicine, communications, and the operational command center.

Command Cave - a base inside the mountain

Measuring 150 meters in length and 100 meters in width, the Command Cave, located at kilometer 12 on the 20th Victory Road in Phong Nha commune, Quang Tri province, is not only a physical relic but also a spiritual symbol. The rocky outcrops that once served as makeshift hospital beds, and the niches in the walls that became strategic work desks, are now recreated using light, models, sound effects, and digital displays, creating a vibrant "storytelling" space.

Upon entering the cave, visitors feel as if they have stepped into a time machine, where every breath carries the echoes of the past. Each step is a return, touching upon tragic memories, as every bend, every stream, every rocky path here is steeped in the sweat, blood, and tears of thousands of people who fought for national independence.

Mr. Nguyen Chau My, General Director of T20 Quyet Thang Co., Ltd., shared: “This is a project close to our hearts, aiming to retell historical stories in a new, more vivid and realistic way. We believe that these sacred values need to be passed on to the younger generation in a profound and creative manner.”

A unique highlight not to be missed is the 9D virtual reality experience area, where visitors can sit in the legendary Zil-131 truck, an icon of military transport in the Truong Son Mountains, and embark on an unprecedented visual "marching" adventure. The simulation system integrates surround sound, moving images, the smell of gunpowder smoke, wind and dust effects, and vibrations to simulate treacherous roads, taking viewers through B52 bombing raids, feeling the chaos and tension, and then settling into moments of peace in the Truong Son Mountains during peacetime.

More than just a technological game, this virtual reality zone is also a deeply humanistic message. It forces people to reflect on the price of independence, the sacrifices made for peace, and gratitude for those who have fallen. This is a new way of "telling history"—not dry, not bookish, but directly appealing to the emotions and perceptions of each individual.

Through systematic investment, the tourist area provides today's generation not only with an understanding but also a sense of connection to the Truong Son Mountains. Younger generations may not have lived through the war, but through this experience, they can feel the ferocity and heroism, thereby fostering love for their homeland, gratitude, and responsibility for the future.

Veteran Nguyen Huy Du, who fought on the Route 20 Victory Road, emotionally said: “This tour doesn’t embellish but accurately recreates what we lived and fought for. It helps viewers understand what the Truong Son Mountains went through – the losses, the resilience, and the miracles.”

The "Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave" tourist area

On July 5, 2025, at kilometer 12 of the 20 Quyet Thang Road, Phong Nha commune, Quang Tri province, the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board, in collaboration with T20 Quyet Thang Co., Ltd., officially inaugurated the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Commander's Cave" eco-tourism area. This event not only marks a new and promising tourism product but also represents a significant step in the strategy of developing tourism linked to the heritage and revolutionary history of the North Central region.

Route 20 Quyet Thang – one of the vital arteries on the Truong Son mountain range during the war against the US – has long been a symbol of courage and the spirit of "cutting through the Truong Son mountains to save the country." And now, this route is being revived through a new storytelling approach: ecotourism combined with historical education.

As part of the Ecotourism, Resort, and Recreation Project in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park for the period 2021-2030, according to Decision No. 153/QD-UBND of Quang Binh province, the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave" tourist area is one of the typical projects aimed at reviving historical values combined with nature conservation. From a place once marked by the footsteps of transport soldiers, volunteer youth, medical officers, and communications personnel, it has transformed into a unique destination, allowing visitors to relive those heroic years.

Sustainable Development Goals

Beyond its historical education and tourism experience, the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Commander's Cave" tourist area is also oriented towards sustainable ecotourism development. The management board prioritizes the principles of preserving the natural ecosystem of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang region and creating livelihoods for local people through training, employment, and the development of community-based products and services. In addition, it emphasizes green growth, reducing plastic waste, and applying clean energy. Respect for local culture and community engagement are also key aspects, including guided tours, performances, traditional cuisine, and handicrafts.

According to the plan, the tourist area will achieve a minimum annual visitor growth of 5% during the 2025-2030 period. Furthermore, it will become one of the unique eco-historical tourism destinations in Southeast Asia, contributing to positioning Quang Tri (formerly Quang Binh) as the focal point of the "back to the roots" journey combined with exploring the natural beauty of Central Vietnam.
