When talking about Hanoi, it is impossible not to mention Trang Tien ice cream - a dish so old that it has become one of the symbols of the capital. Hanoians love and are attached to Trang Tien ice cream, and tourists consider it a dish that must be tried once when visiting the thousand-year-old city. Another special feature of this dish is that the Trang Tien ice cream shop is located in a beautiful location: right on the front of Trang Tien Street, just a few steps from Hoan Kiem Lake. After many years of existence, this shop has remained open to serve customers and has the appearance of a trading store that was very popular in Hanoi a few decades ago. But after only a short period of social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hanoians were surprised to see that the ice cream shop associated with so many memories now has a new look with a more youthful and spacious style.


The reason for this change stems from the transfer of Trang Tien ice cream to another investor. Realizing that the store had deteriorated after more than 50 years of operation, Trang Tien Ice Cream Joint Stock Company spent about 10 billion VND to renovate the space.

From the outside, the entire 2-storey old French building has been repainted in a cool white and green color scheme. Outside the store, the sign “Trang Tien Ice Cream since 1958” stands out on a green background, replacing the previous reddish-brown background. The brand identity has also been changed with a new logo in the shape of a simple but memorable ice cream cone and the slogan “Timeless Flavor” replacing “Feel the Traditional Flavor.”


The interior design of the store is the most changed part. The corrugated iron roof of the old house was removed and replaced with a mobile roof system, making the space here brighter.

The architecture with arches, lighting system and green trees makes the interior space of Trang Tien ice cream modern without losing the ancient features of old Hanoi. This new space has created a feeling of airiness and comfort, everything is carefully designed to make the store more spacious and clean.

In addition, other areas such as sales counters and parking areas are also expanded to maximize usable area.


Because of this fresh change, the "new Trang Tien Ice Cream shop" has quickly been ranked on the list of the hottest check-in and virtual living locations for young people in Hanoi during this time.


Highly appreciating this new change, some young people still contributed their opinions: "Although it has been renovated to be much more spacious, due to the limited space, during rush hours like in the evenings, the capacity is still not enough. My friends and I still have to buy ice cream and then go out to the sidewalk... to enjoy it" - Ha Linh living in Cau Giay said.
Sharing about the new look of Trang Tien Ice Cream shop, Mrs. Tran Thi Lan (70 years old) living in Hanoi was taken by her grandson to eat ice cream and shared: "I was very surprised because this place has been renovated very beautifully, the ice cream is still as delicious as before but the shop is new and a bit modern".

As customers commented, although the space has changed a lot, the traditional ice creams on sale are still the same as before, including milk, vanilla, chocolate, coconut, but the most famous and special is still green rice ice cream.... The prices of these ice creams have not changed much over the past decade, ice cream sticks cost 8,000 VND/stick and ice cream cones cost 12,000 VND/stick. Notably, Trang Tien ice cream still retains the original quality and traditional flavor of the brand.
