1. El Chico National Park

This beautiful national park is located a two-hour drive from Mexico City in the state of Hidalgo. The weather in El Chico National Park is cold year-round, so don't forget to bring warm clothing, as well as a good quality tent and sleeping bag. The park covers over 2,000 hectares, with four campsites equipped with kitchens and hot showers. El Chico boasts spectacular beauty and is ideal for various types of hiking.
2. Las Estacas

Las Estacas is a stunning natural park located about two hours' drive from Mexico City. It features a pristine natural river where you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, or rafting. Las Estacas also boasts a swimming pool, restaurants, restrooms, showers, security lockers, a temazcal (sauna), a spa, and exciting activities such as ziplining, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

Bring a tent, food, and drinks when visiting Las Estacas National Park and avoid going there in the summer, as it gets very crowded and often rains in the evenings.
3. Xopilco Campground
The Xopilco campsite, located near Tepoztlán (a town in Morelos state) – less than two hours' drive from Mexico City – is surrounded by rolling mountains, so you can hike and enjoy romantic starry nights. Because of its proximity to Tepoztlán, you can also easily explore the town, visit the Tepozteco pyramid, browse craft stalls, and explore other sites to learn more about the area's history and traditions.

Xopilco Campground offers tent rentals, food sales, and private toilets, hammocks, and showers. It gets quite cold at night, so we recommend visiting during the warmer months (April and May); also, avoid summer vacation as it's the rainy season.
4. San Nicolás Totolapan
San Nicolás Totolapan is a 1,900-hectare community park located within the city limits, near Mount Ajusco. Locals frequently visit for mountain biking, hiking, and fishing. It also offers exciting zipline and rock climbing experiences.

To go camping, you'll need to bring a tent and other necessary supplies, but you don't have to worry about food, as there's a restaurant here serving delicious local dishes. In addition, you should also prepare warm clothes and blankets in case the weather gets cold.
5. Malikailli
Located just five minutes from Malinalco and two and a half hours' drive from Mexico City, Malikualli is an eco-tourism complex featuring a spacious campsite (with tents and sleeping bags available for rent), a safe campfire area, and a swimming pool. Malikualli is a great choice for camping with children, as families can enjoy activities like cycling, ziplining, hiking, and even paragliding.

From March to May it will be quite hot; from June to October is the rainy season; from November to February it can be cold, but you just need to wear an extra jacket to comfortably enjoy your camping trip in Maqialili.
