According to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, the province has not had any community cases of Covid-19 to date. Phu Quoc is an isolated island city far from the mainland, with limited medical resources, especially in Covid-19 testing capacity, and the infrastructure and medical equipment for centralized quarantine and treatment of Covid-19 patients still face many difficulties.
Currently, the COVID-19 situation in Vietnam is very complex. In the past week, there have been over 3,000 new cases, mainly concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City (all 22 districts and affiliated cities have outbreaks), and there are no signs of the number of new cases being brought under control. In some cases, the source of infection has not been identified, and notably, there have been cases where individuals who completed 21 days of centralized quarantine tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 upon returning to their localities, leading to community transmission.

To ensure the effective implementation of the "4 on-site" principle, prevent the disease from entering Phu Quoc City, and ensure the safety of Covid-19 prevention and control in Kien Giang province, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province requests the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to agree to temporarily suspend passenger flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc and vice versa from 00:00 on July 6th.
The People's Committee of Kien Giang province will report and propose reopening flights when the Covid-19 pandemic is under control.

As of now, nine localities have temporarily suspended receiving commercial flights to Ho Chi Minh City: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Quang Binh, Gia Lai, Kien Giang, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, and Thua Thien - Hue.
