According to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, up to now, the province has not had any Covid-19 cases in the community. Phu Quoc is an isolated island city, far from the mainland, with limited medical resources, especially the capacity to test for Covid-19, and the facilities and medical equipment for centralized quarantine and treatment of Covid-19 patients are still facing many difficulties.
Currently, the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the country is very complicated. In the past week, there have been more than 3,000 new cases, mainly concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City (22/22 districts, towns, and affiliated cities have outbreaks) and there are no signs of controlling the number of new cases. Some cases have not found the source of infection, especially those who completed 21 days of centralized quarantine but when returning to their localities, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus, causing community infections.

To ensure effective implementation of the "4 on-site" policy, prevent the epidemic from entering Phu Quoc City and ensure the safety of Covid-19 prevention and control in Kien Giang Province, the People's Committee of Kien Giang Province requested the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to agree to temporarily suspend passenger flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc and vice versa from 0:00 on July 6.
Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee will report and propose to reopen flights when the Covid-19 epidemic situation is under control.

Up to now, there are 9 localities that have temporarily stopped receiving commercial flights to Ho Chi Minh City including: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Quang Binh, Gia Lai, Kien Giang, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Thua Thien - Hue.
