CieL (HCMC) received a Michelin star the first time it was shortlisted.
Coco Dining (HCMC) upgraded to one Michelin star
This year, nine restaurants in Vietnam received one Michelin star, an increase of two from last year. Among them, CieL (HCMC) received one Michelin star the first time it was shortlisted and Coco Dining (HCMC) was upgraded to one Michelin star from last year:
CieL Restaurant (HCMC) – new: Innovative culinary style with sophisticated processing techniques and cozy culinary space. Coco Dining Restaurant (HCMC) – upgraded: Dining space with its own style, where chef Vo Thanh Vuong introduces contemporary cuisine, combining Vietnamese recipes with modern techniques and fermentation methods.
Restaurants awarded one Michelin star include: Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tam Vi (Hanoi); Long Trieu, Anan Saigon, Akuna (Ho Chi Minh City) and La Maison 1888 (Da Nang).
Michelin stars are how the Michelin Guide ranks the quality of a restaurant's cuisine. One star is for a place with delicious food that's worth a visit. Two stars is for a restaurant with excellent food that's worth a visit. Three stars is the highest rating, for a special dining experience that's worth a trip just to enjoy.
Among the new establishments added to the Michelin Guide list, there are 10 establishments from Hanoi (5 Bib Gourmand, 5 Michelin Selected and 1 Michelin Green Star), 7 from Ho Chi Minh City (1 restaurant with 1 Michelin Star and 6 Michelin Selected), 7 from Da Nang (4 Bib Gourmand and 3 Michelin Selected). In addition, a restaurant in Hanoi was also honored with the new Michelin Green Star award – recognizing remarkable efforts in sustainable and environmentally friendly development practices.
“We are proud to see an increase in the number of MICHELIN-starred establishments this year, and these establishments are staffed by talented chefs. Many of them have returned to their roots, combining modern cooking techniques to tell the stories of their homelands and rediscover the flavors of their childhood. At the same time, street food stalls, family-run eateries, and long-standing establishments still focus on preserving culinary traditions with authenticity and passion,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin Guides.
Lamai Garden is the first restaurant in Hanoi to receive MICHELIN Green Star
Lamai Garden is the first restaurant in Hanoi to receive a Michelin Green Star. Upgraded by chef and founder Tran Hieu Trung in 2022 – serving seasonal and vegetarian menus with a "farm-to-table" model that reflects the spirit of contemporary Vietnam. Diners will enter the open kitchen through a garden. The restaurant uses ingredients from its own farm in Phu Tho, including herbs, duck and black pigs.
