Christmas was originally a holiday for Christians to celebrate the day God came to earth. Gradually, Christmas became a festive season in many countries around the world. During this season, you will see pine trees, Santa Claus, snowmen, Yule logs and especially colorful candy canes everywhere.
In the 1800s, an Indian candy maker wanted to express the meaning of Christmas through a candy symbol. He did this by bending one of his candy bars into the shape of a cane. Through his candy cane, he wanted to express the love and sacrifice of Jesus to everyone.
Since then, people have passed on that the white stripe on the candy cane represents the purity of Jesus and the three red stripes represent the blood from the sufferings he suffered before his death on the cross. The three stripes also represent the holy trinity of God, the unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The shape of the candy cane also has another spiritual meaning. The candy cane resembles a shepherd’s staff because Jesus himself shepherded his flock. If you turn the candy cane upside down, you will see the letter J, which represents the first letter of Jesus’ name. In addition, the hardness of the candy cane symbolizes the iron will, the solid foundation of the church, and the great promise of God.
Candy canes have long been an indispensable symbol of Christmas, but not everyone knows its interesting meaning.
