Surrounded by the sand desert of the Empty Quarter, guests staying at the Qasr Al Sarab resort (Abu Dhabi) can experience driving cars on sand dunes, trekking with camels or cycling to welcome the sunrise.

Qasr Al Sarab is a resort located on the edge of the Empty Quarter, the world's largest isolated sand desert in southern Arabia. Visitors here will have the opportunity to explore one of the wildest places on the planet.

Construction of Qasr Al Sarab began in 2007. The architecture of the building is designed to reduce wind and prevent sandstorms.

More than 2 million square meters of sand were removed to build the resort. Many walls were filled with sandbags to reduce the amount of concrete used during construction.

Opened in 2009, the resort has become a hot tourist spot in the area, appearing in newspapers, magazines, and even on television. Most notably, in 2016, Qasr Al Sarab appeared in the blockbuster "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

Qasr Al Sarab is surrounded by an Arabian-style fortress. It is about 2 hours away from the center of Abu Dhabi and not far from the border with Saudi Arabia.

The resort has 154 rooms and 52 villas. At the heart of this luxurious complex is a palm-fringed swimming pool that resembles a lush green oasis.

Outside the fortified walls are miles of sandy expanses of the Empty Quarter. As such, Qasr Al Sarab offers visitors a wide range of recreational and nature-based activities.

Visitors can try their hand at experiences such as driving a car on sand dunes, trekking with camels or enjoying a tea party as the sun sets over the desert.

Another popular activity for visitors to Qasr Al Sarab is to ride a bicycle (big wheel) to explore the desert at dawn.

The villas in the resort all have a private swimming pool, all 50 villas are built facing west so guests can watch the sunset.
