Phu Quoc Island City has been officially established.

14/12/2020

On the afternoon of December 9th, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly approved a resolution establishing Phu Quoc City, maintaining its current total natural area and population size. The resolution takes effect from 2021, making Phu Quoc the first island city in Vietnam.

In recent years, Phu Quoc has consistently ranked among the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, with a total registered investment capital exceeding 340 trillion VND. However, this figure is still insufficient to unlock the full potential of its tourism, pristine nature, seafood industry, and port system development.

Therefore, Phu Quoc's elevation to city status is welcome news for many small and medium-sized enterprises. In the not-too-distant future, Phu Quoc coastal city is predicted to become not only an international-class resort and tourism center as directed by the central government, but also a maritime economic center in the western region.

Kien Giang Provincial Party Secretary Do Thanh Binh shared: “With the motto: Investing in Phu Quoc is not only for Phu Quoc but also an investment in sustainable development for the entire Kien Giang province and beyond.”
