Travel blogger Nguyen Thanh Tuan is famous for his cross-Vietnam trips. Recently, he visited Kon Tum and thoroughly explored the Mang Ri terraced rice fields located at the foot of the majestic Ngoc Linh mountain.
People often travel to the remote Northwest to admire and photograph the golden rice terraces covering the hillsides. Few know that the Central Highlands also has such a golden season. The Mang Ri Valley in Tu Mo Rong District, Kon Tum Province, is often called the "land of mist" in the northern Central Highlands because of its cool climate year-round.

Travel blogger Nguyen Thanh Tuan visits Ngoc Linh National Forest.
While not as majestic as the terraced rice fields in Northwest Vietnam, the terraced rice fields of Mang Ri still possess a unique beauty in the highlands that captivates many.
If you have the chance to visit during the rice harvest season, you'll witness the sight of mountain girls harvesting golden ripe rice in the winding terraced fields, amidst the vast mountains and forests. This might immediately bring to mind the majestic terraced rice paddies of Northwest Vietnam. But this is Mang Ri, a valley ablaze with the golden color of ripening rice in the Ngoc Linh mountain plateau.
Viewed from above, the terraced rice fields on the hillsides, interspersed with villages featuring towering communal houses, resemble a breathtaking landscape painting.
Nguyen Thanh Tuan said: "The road from the center of Dak Glei to the end of Mang Ri - Tu Mo Rong is about 75 km long, winding with many landslide sections and very steep, so it should only be traveled when the weather is sunny, and the vehicle needs to be thoroughly checked before going. In addition, Ngoc Linh has many other places for visitors to experience such as mountain climbing, forest trekking..."
July and August are typically the rice harvest season. The rice crops are not all planted at the same time; some areas have already been harvested over a month ago, others are ripening, and some areas towards Mang Ri are still green.
The terraced rice fields of the Central Highlands are truly unique; along the main roads, you can admire the beauty of the rice paddies and the charming little houses.
Besides the highly valuable Ngoc Linh ginseng, the locals also cultivate Ngoc Linh vine ginseng, with almost every household drying it in their yards along with other medicinal herbs.
The ethnic minority people are extremely lovely, cheerful, and always welcome tourists.
Terraced rice fields are not only a source of food but also demonstrate the resilience, aspiration for prosperity, and the skill and creativity of the people in the highlands in their agricultural production.

Nguyen Thanh Tuan further shared: "Due to the rainy season, when we reached the intersection of the Ho Chi Minh Highway and turned here, it was raining heavily and dark. There were no guesthouses or homestays up there, so we had to continue for another 10 km to the center of Dak Glei to sleep. Although the road is better than before, there are still many sections with landslides, steep slopes, and narrow roads that are difficult to navigate."
If you have the chance to visit Mang Ri, Ngoc Linh mountain, you will be able to admire the stunning golden terraced rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see. The golden color of the ripening rice, blending with the deep green of the Central Highlands mountains and forests, further enhances Mang Ri's dreamy and captivating beauty.
