Unique colorful taxis in Bangkok

24/04/2014

Taxis around the world are usually white, yellow and black while the ones in Bangkok have unique colorful colors.

In Bangkok, there are taxis that are only one color such as pink, orange, purple, green, yellow, and there are also taxis that combine both colors. While the color of taxis in other countries is not special, taxis in Bangkok are color coded.

Solid color taxis (turquoise, navy, blue, green, red, yellow, orange, blue, pink, purple, brown) are company, co-operative and rental company cars.

Taxis with two-color combinations are divided into three types: yellow-green, red-green and yellow-orange. Yellow-green is for private cars, red-green is for rental cars and yellow-orange is for company taxis.

There are many taxis in Bangkok, so when traveling here, you do not need to worry about transportation, just choose your favorite color to get in and go. Yellow-green taxis are usually considered better than other colors.

In addition to taxis with many colors, there are also buses. For buses, each color will correspond to the difference in fare, route, ownership and whether or not there is air conditioning.

The regular buses that do not have air conditioning are the red and cream coloured ones. The white and blue buses are not as good as the others, as they do not have air conditioning and the fares are a bit higher than the others.

Colors are not only limited to transportation but also present in the daily lives of the people. This is because Thai tradition has an astrological rule (influenced by Hindu mythology), assigning specific colors to each day of the week such as Sunday is red, Monday is yellow, Tuesday is pink, Wednesday is green (day) and gray (night), Thursday is orange, Friday is blue and Saturday is purple. These colors are considered lucky and people also celebrate the birth of colors.
