The Turkish government has just announced plans to charge an overnight tax to tourists from April 2020. This tax is calculated for people aged 12 and over and is based on the number of stars the hotel they book, the more stars the more money it costs.

A night at a 5-star hotel will cost you 18 lira (72,000 VND), while a 4-star hotel will cost 12 lira (48,000 VND). If you stay at a 3-star hotel, the tax you have to pay is 9 lira (36,000 VND) and 6 lira (24,000 VND) for 1-2 star accommodation.

For example, a family of four staying for two weeks at a five-star hotel could end up paying more than 1,000 lira in taxes. According to The Sun, a 14-day stay in Turkey at a five-star resort costs tourists around 3,340 lira.
