It is often said that Hanoi would no longer be Hanoi without its autumn, with its "golden crape myrtle trees," "red-leaved banyan trees," "old streets and ancient houses," and "dark brown tiled roofs," as musician Trinh Cong Son once wrote in his song "Autumn in Hanoi." There are also Hanoi's Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Tay Ho Palace... - famous landmarks and structures that everyone remembers whenever they think of this land of a thousand years of culture.
Experiencing a Hanoi that is both poetic and rich in cultural and historical value is what the Techcombank Hanoi Marathon aims to offer athletes at the race taking place from September 23rd to 25th.
A route steeped in the cultural essence of the capital city.
After delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hanoi Marathon Techcombank will officially launch this fall. The highlight of the race is the route, dubbed "the most beautiful in Hanoi," passing through five districts: Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Tay Ho, Dong Anh, and Long Bien.
From the starting line at Hoan Kiem Lake (for the 42.2 km marathon and 21.1 km half-marathon), athletes can enjoy panoramic views of Ngoc Son Temple, The Huc Bridge, and the Pen Tower before passing famous landmarks such as the Hanoi Opera House, Hanoi Old Quarter, Ba Dinh Square, and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum…

The half-marathon will take athletes along the picturesque Phan Dinh Phung street, across the ancient Long Bien bridge, before running along the Duong River. Sharing the same starting and finishing point, the marathon distances will take athletes across the vast West Lake, across the modern Nhat Tan bridge, over the left embankment of the Red River, and finish at Vincom Long Bien with their teammates. Throughout the journey are unique running terrains, famous architectural landmarks, and scenic spots, promising a one-of-a-kind experience.
With four nearly non-overlapping distances, athletes are free to choose a running route that suits their fitness level and preferences, explore the capital, and push their limits to create a memorable journey. The Techcombank Hanoi Marathon also has a KIDS race for young athletes aged 5 to 14.
This is a map showing the race routes for the four distances at the Techcombank Hanoi Marathon.
Notably, the culturally rich course of the Hanoi Marathon Techcombank was certified to international standards by the Association of International Marathons and Races (AIMS) on August 11th. To obtain this certification, the course had to ensure accuracy and safety across all distances, and was personally measured and approved by AIMS representatives before the certification was submitted.
According to an agreement between AIMS and the World Athletics Federation (WA) - formerly the IAAF - once certified by AIMS, the race course is also recognized as meeting WA standards. This standard is valid for 5 years or until any changes are made to the race course before that time.
This means that participating athletes can use their performance at the Hanoi Marathon Techcombank as a criterion to register for larger marathons, even those held abroad, such as the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, or New York City Marathon. This is one of the factors that helps the race attract a large number of professional athletes to register.
Spreading the message of "Outstanding Achievement"
Spreading the message of "Outstanding Achievement," the Techcombank Hanoi Marathon aims to convey the spirit of solidarity, overcoming challenges together to conquer all limits, for a Vietnam that is better every day.
This is not the first time Techcombank has partnered with major marathon events nationwide. In 2017, the bank was the main sponsor of the inaugural Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon. After five years, the event has become one of the largest and highest-quality running races in Vietnam. Recently, the 2021 season was a resounding success, exceeding expectations with over 13,000 participants – a significant increase from the 5,000 in 2017.
The Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon 2021 attracted more than 13,000 participants.
Building upon that foundation, the bank partnered with Sunrise Event Vietnam to organize the Techcombank Hanoi Marathon. As a strategic sponsor, Techcombank once again affirmed its mission to promote and guide the community towards a healthy lifestyle, thereby highlighting the power of unity, overcoming challenges together, conquering all limits, and gradually building a brighter future for Vietnam.
