Hanoi temporarily stops promoting tourism on CNN

17/04/2020

On April 15, the Hanoi Department of Tourism worked with the US cable TV channel CNN to temporarily suspend tourism promotion programs in the capital, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic in Hanoi in particular and globally in general.

The decision to temporarily suspend the promotion program is based on the context that Hanoi has stopped receiving international tourists since March, showing promotional videos or films on CNN will no longer be effective, and will even cost more. "Hanoi's point of view is that only when WHO announces the end of the epidemic globally will we negotiate and choose the right time to continue implementing this promotion package," said the Department leader.

CNN also agrees with the Department's opinion and has temporarily suspended all film and promotional video production activities until the epidemic situation improves.

According to the contract, CNN cooperates with the Hanoi Department of Tourism to produce 30-60 second commercials promoting Hanoi's landscapes, destinations, people, culture, cuisine, etc. In addition, the American TV channel also produces 30-minute programs to introduce Hanoi to international tourists.

These content are broadcast across CNN's digital, television and social media platforms. The broadcast region includes Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North America and South Asia.

After the initial promotion period, the rate of tourists coming to Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general has grown rapidly. Foreigners also have a certain level of awareness about Hanoi, about the culture, cuisine, people and landscapes of the capital.
