UK-based market research firm Euromonitor International has just released its list of the world's 100 most visited cities in 2019. Euromonitor's report includes data on visitors from more than 400 cities, and only counts international visitors who are visiting another country for at least 24 hours. This means that domestic tourists, day-trippers and cruise passengers are not included in the list.
Asian cities continue to lead the rankings. This is largely due to the increasing number of Chinese people traveling abroad, especially to Asian countries. They are followed by Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.
In 2019, Hong Kong faced political unrest with many prolonged protests and riots, but the country was still the most visited destination in the world this year.
