From mid-morning, dozens of cyclos carrying students, artists, artisans, and officials from various agencies in Hoi An depart from the entrance to the old town, passing through the main pedestrian streets, creating a peaceful and beautiful scene for tourists.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City, said that since 1999 when Hoi An was honored as a World Cultural Heritage site, this is the second time the ancient town has received such a great honor.
"This is a joy not only for those working in conservation and culture, but also an honor for the entire community of residents in the old town."
"Joining the creative network will help Hoi An connect with network members globally, working together to build and develop in the fields of creative culture and improve the lives of the people," Mr. Lanh said.

Hoi An's great joy since 1999
According to Mr. Lanh, over the next four years, the city will promote the development of public-private partnerships and professional social organizations, mobilizing the creative participation of citizens, artisans, artists, entrepreneurs, etc.
Hoi An will also expand its startup programs, calling for initiatives to support handicraft production that combine conservation and development; innovation towards green practices, diversification, and creating added value for products, keeping pace with advanced creative design trends.

On the afternoon of October 31st, UNESCO officially announced the inclusion of Hoi An, along with Da Lat and 53 other cities worldwide, into the global creative network. Hoi An and Da Lat are the third Vietnamese cities, after Hanoi, to receive this honor.
Currently, the Global Innovation Network has 350 members. According to regulations, UNESCO meets every two years to admit new members. Four years after joining, members must demonstrate their commitments; failure to do so will result in a review and reassessment.
Hoi An, along with 99 other global members, chose the field of handicrafts and folk art to submit its application to join the network. Da Lat chose the field of music.
