Due to the rapidly increasing demand from South Koreans traveling to Vietnam for tourism and work in recent years, Jeju Air will open an additional route from Daegu, South Korea to Da Nang starting December 22, 2018. The flight time is expected to be approximately 4.5 hours. Official ticket prices have not yet been announced by Jeju Air.
Da Nang has become a favorite destination for South Korean tourists in recent years.
Currently, Jeju Air operates three routes from South Korea to Da Nang: Incheon - Da Nang (21 flights/week), Pusan - Da Nang (7 flights/week), and Muan - Da Nang (7 flights/week). With the addition of the new Daegu - Da Nang route at the end of December, Jeju Air will increase the total number of flights from South Korea to Da Nang to 42 flights/week.
Jeju Air's routes in Vietnam have become the most popular, ranking third after routes from Japan and China. The number of seats offered on Jeju Air's Vietnam-Korea routes has grown rapidly. In 2015, there were 150,000 seats, tripling to 450,000 in 2017, and reaching 720,000 seats by October 2018.
Jeju Air's future strategy is to make it easier for people in major Korean cities to travel to Vietnam for tourism and to explore opportunities for collaboration.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Yang Seong Jin, Director of Communications at Jeju Air, said that Vietnam is currently not only a tourism partner but also a very important trade partner for Korean businesses. The airline's future strategy is to make it easy for people in all major cities of Korea to travel to major cities in Vietnam for tourism and to develop cooperation opportunities.
According to statistics from the Korea Tourism Organization, the number of South Korean tourists visiting Vietnam in 2016 was over 1.5 million, and in 2017 it was over 2.4 million, an increase of 56%. As of September 2018, the number had reached nearly 2.6 million. This demonstrates that Vietnam is becoming one of the favorite destinations for South Korea.
The number of South Korean tourists visiting Vietnam has been steadily increasing over the years.
Over the past two years, the number of South Korean tourists visiting Da Nang has increased sharply and they currently lead the number of international visitors to the city, surpassing even Chinese tourists. According to data from the Da Nang Department of Tourism, in 2017, Da Nang welcomed 1.3 million South Korean tourists, an increase of nearly 100% compared to the previous year.
To improve tourism products for Asian tourists, including the Korean market, local tourism authorities need to understand the trends and preferences of Korean tourists to create products that suit their tastes, especially in terms of cuisine and culture.
