The fourth largest city in Vietnam, Can Tho is the leading city of the Mekong Delta. As the urban center for the delta's farming and fishing communities, the city still retains a warm, traditional riverine culture, in which the Mekong River continues to play a vital role in daily life. Locally, the Mekong Delta is known as the 'Nine Dragons', referring to the nine branches of the Mekong River that flow through the region, enriching the land before emptying into the Vietnamese sea.
Azerai is situated on Au Island, a 21-hectare nature reserve in the middle of the Hau River. This island is home to mangrove forests and banyan trees, both part of the Mekong Delta ecosystem. The Can Tho Bridge, Southeast Asia's longest bridge, spans the waterway northeast, creating a dramatic backdrop. Ninh Kieu Wharf and the Hau River line the remaining waterfront. Despite being only 1 km from the city center, the island's natural beauty and tranquility offer a striking contrast to the hustle and bustle of Can Tho city.
