The World Luxury Hotel Awards is the most prestigious award in the travel industry, always considered the "Oscar of the hotel industry". Officially opened in 2006, this 70-room luxury resort is a member of the Mgallery group of hotels by Sofitel, La Veranda is the first luxury resort to open in Phu Quoc. Located in the heart of Duong Dong beach, La Veranda offers services and experiences that evoke the feeling of French colonial times by the sea. Phu Quoc Island, located in the southern province of Kien Giang, attracts an estimated 1.8 million tourists each year. Its estimated revenue was more than VND11.15 trillion (US$499 million) in 2017.
