Over the past few days, Phu Quoc Island has experienced heavy and widespread rainfall. Many areas, such as Duong Dong town and Cua Can commune, have been severely flooded, forcing residents to evacuate. Simultaneously, tourist areas and resorts have also suffered negative impacts due to this weather.

On the morning of September 19th, many areas in Duong Dong town, Phu Quoc island district (Kien Giang province), were still heavily flooded. This area is home to many popular tourist destinations such as Dinh Cau, Duong Dong market, Ganh Dau, and the district's administrative centers. However, heavy rain in the town has hampered many activities for tourists. According to local residents, in some places the water level reached waist-deep.

Many alleys in Duong Dong town were still heavily flooded on the morning of September 19th.

Reportedly, after more than an hour of heavy rain, many neighborhoods and alleys were submerged in water. Residents could only watch as their belongings floated aimlessly in the murky water. Many families had to evacuate, renting hotel rooms or temporarily staying with relatives. Daily life was completely disrupted, and work and children's education in the area were also greatly affected.

Phu Quoc, a renowned and beautiful tourist island district in Vietnam, has become a target for travel since early August due to two consecutive historic floods. Many locals recall never having experienced such severe flooding, with floodwaters cutting off and isolating many areas, and property damage estimated at 100 billion VND.

In fact, many residents have reported that the situation of "living with floods" has existed for many years, not just since the recent historic floods. Some households in the alleys of Duong Dong town are all too familiar with the sight of water flooding into their homes and sweeping away their belongings whenever there are heavy rains lasting more than an hour.

The flooding has significantly impacted tourism activities in Phu Quoc. The town of Duong Dong and the commune of Cua Can are known for their concentration of famous hotels and resorts. However, the floods spared no place, and some tourist areas have suffered from a lack of customers due to the inundation.

According to Mr. Mai Van Huynh, Chairman of the Phu Quoc District People's Committee, the flooding in recent days was due to prolonged heavy rains. Currently, the district has directed responsible units and militia to assist people in severely affected areas. In the long term, however, it is still necessary to wait for relevant departments to re-survey the canals and waterways in the area and address any encroachment issues.
