The countdown will take place on the Hong Kong Tourism Board's website and social media platforms (Facebook and YouTube) at 11pm (HKT) and 11:30pm (HKT) (ie 10pm and 10:30pm Vietnam time) on the night of December 31. As soon as the clock strikes midnight, a two-minute video of Victoria Harbour and the famous skyscrapers nearby will be shown as part of the event. Along with that, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will send New Year's greetings to the world. This online countdown is not only an opportunity for Hong Kong to share the joy of the new year with the world, but also an inspirational message of an optimistic and energetic Hong Kong no matter what happens.

Mr. Calvin Cheung, an English teacher living in Kowloon Peninsula (Hong Kong), shared: “I appreciate this creative measure by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Hong Kong people are sad that they cannot watch the fireworks and countdown to the New Year, but with modern technology, we are somewhat comforted by having an alternative measure.”

Limiting outdoor gatherings will help the world overcome Covid-19 sooner, hoping that bilateral tourism between Hong Kong and Vietnam in particular and the world in general will soon return to normal, Mr. Calvin added.
