Established in 2015, Dak Nong Geopark boasts approximately 65 geological and geomorphological heritage sites, including a system of nearly 50 caves with a total length of over 10,000 meters, volcanic craters, waterfalls, and more. Dak Nong Geopark has long been renowned as a fertile red soil region with a tropical forest ecosystem, preserving distinctive values of biodiversity, unique cultural, geological, and natural features, as well as traces of prehistoric human activity.

Recently, relevant ministries and agencies, including the Vietnam National UNESCO Committee, the Institute of Geological Sciences and Minerals, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province, and domestic and international experts, have collaborated on research into the outstanding geological, geomorphological, and biodiversity values of Dak Nong Geopark. Based on this research, they developed and submitted the dossier for Dak Nong Geopark to UNESCO in November 2018.
