Another new global geopark recognized in Vietnam

On July 7, 2020, in Paris, UNESCO recognized Dak Nong Geopark as a global geopark. Accordingly, Dak Nong became the third global geopark in Vietnam, after Dong Van Stone Plateau and Cao Bang Non Nuoc.

Dak Nong Geopark was established in 2015 with about 65 geological and geomorphological heritage sites, including a system of nearly 50 caves with a total length of more than 10,000 m, volcanic craters, waterfalls... Dak Nong Geopark has long been famous as a rich red land with a tropical forest ecosystem, a place that preserves typical values ​​of biodiversity, many unique cultural, geological, natural features as well as traces of prehistoric human activities.

Recently, relevant ministries and branches, including the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, and domestic and international experts have coordinated to study outstanding values ​​in geology, geomorphology and biodiversity, on that basis, to build and submit the dossier of Dak Nong Geopark to UNESCO in November 2018.

Relevant agencies will implement plans to protect the environment, conserve nature, use resources rationally, preserve and maximize the values ​​of geology, biodiversity, culture, history, and national traditions, while simultaneously developing the economy and society, focusing on developing sustainable tourism to preserve and promote the value of Dak Nong Global Geopark.
