Indochina Code - a large-scale historical film project by the People's Police Film Studio, Galaxy Studio, and ThreeC Studio - has officially announced its film crew and a projected release date of April 30, 2027.

Honoring the unsung heroes

On the afternoon of May 5, 2026, at Studio S1 of the Public Security Communication Department, the official announcement ceremony for the film project "Indochina Code" took place with the participation of leaders of the Public Security Communication Department, representatives of production and distribution units, and the main cast.

This project marks the commercial return of the espionage film genre, which has been almost absent from Vietnamese big screens for nearly four decades. According to official information from the producers, the film is inspired by several cases from over 25,000 files of Vietnamese intelligence officers throughout the two wars of resistance, especially case P01.

The central character is Tran Thang, a police officer operating undercover within the enemy's security apparatus in Laos during the 1960s. His mission is to track down an anonymous figure manipulating war strategy on the Vietnamese battlefield.

Nam and all of Indochina. To complete his mission, he must sacrifice his true identity, relationships, and the safety of his entire family.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Do Trieu Phong, Director of the Public Security Communication Department, said: “From the beginning of the early government to the present day, through all the wars of resistance and even in peacetime, the intelligence force has always been a special force: in terms of its work, battlefronts, space, and time. There are those who have fallen forever anonymously, only existing in records and on paper. They are never allowed to appear in the mass media. Even some honors within the industry have not been allowed to be announced to this day due to security reasons!”

"Therefore, with the attention of the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and the proposal of the Public Security Communication Department, along with the creative team, we developed the project 'Indochina Code' with the setting of 1960, reflecting a part of the intelligence work of the young State in the struggle to protect the country."

Lieutenant General Do Trieu Phong also shared the purpose of developing the project: “Our work has two aspirations: Firstly, to give viewers a better understanding of the intelligence forces. Secondly, to pay tribute to the silent soldiers who have fallen. This is also a message to all officers and soldiers who have served and are currently serving on this front, so that they feel remembered, and so that succeeding generations can feel proud of the mission they are undertaking.”

Unlike typical war films that focus on large-scale scenes and direct conflict, "The Indochina Code" places emphasis on the characters' psychology and the struggle for information. Director Tran Ka My – who co-wrote the screenplay with Kim Khue and Phan Van – noted that this is one of the most challenging genres to execute in Vietnamese cinema, given the limited availability of publicly available historical documents on intelligence activities during that period.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Nam Chung - Director of the Public Security Film Department, emphasized: “Film plays a crucial role in recreating history through images, emotions, and human destinies. This is one of the first projects to bring the Indochina intelligence front to the big screen, by exploiting declassified files, aiming to bring stories that were once hidden in the shadows closer to the public through the language of modern cinema.”
