The SingapoRediscovers campaign is the lion island's biggest ever promotion, aimed at encouraging people to travel domestically.

The Singapore Tourism Board, Enterprise Singapore and Sentosa Development Corporation are launching the SingaporeRediscovers campaign, a 45 million Singaporean dollar (about 32.6 million US dollars) domestic tourism promotion campaign. The nine-month campaign aims to encourage people to support domestic tourism and encourage them to explore new things in the Lion City.

Specifically, visitors will have the opportunity to experience staying at partner hotels of the campaign, enjoy the journey to discover emerging destinations in the heart of the city and a series of incentives at famous tourist attractions. Each area and cultural space is built into a short-term travel itinerary, helping visitors experience the unique beauty of their homeland and enjoy a series of attractive incentives.

Some of the events in the campaign include: e-Great Singapore Sale on September 9, the online Singapore Food Festival in August and culinary workshops held in Little India and Chinatown.

Mr. Keith Tan - Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board said: "This campaign will be a stepping stone to redefine the concept of short-term tourism, helping citizens enjoy a Singapoliday - a short domestic holiday and explore their own homeland, supporting local businesses."

While encouraging domestic travel, Mr Tan said that tourism growth must go hand in hand with ensuring safety. All businesses participating in the campaign will have to comply with strict capacity limits and social distancing measures. He said that hotels allowed to reopen must have enough rooms to serve as 14-day quarantine facilities for people returning from overseas. Of the more than 100 hotels that have registered to reopen, more than 80 have been approved to accept bookings.

Ms Thien Kwee Eng, CEO of Sentosa Development Corporation, said that about 80% of the island’s attractions, hotels, food and beverage outlets have reopened. Nearly half of the hotels designated as quarantine facilities will gradually reopen in the coming time. The rest will be arranged in phases in accordance with the progress of the economic reopening.
