Super Mario Bros will be adapted into an animated film.

The film is a co-production between Nintendo and Illumination Animation Studios and is scheduled to officially premiere in North American theaters on December 21, 2022. Notably, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Super Mario Bros. video game, will also be involved in the film's production.

Mario is a world-famous game and is associated with the childhood of many viewers. At the same time, the participation of numerous A-list Hollywood actors in this film project has surprised many fans and further increased curiosity about the film's content.

Specifically, Chris Pratt – a major star who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Jurassic World series – will voice Mario; while Anya Taylor-Joy – a young, award-winning actress – will voice Princess Peach. Other notable actors include Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), and others.

Illumination animation studio founder Chris Meledandri shared: "Mario and Luigi are two incredibly beloved heroes in popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to collaborate with Shigeru Miyamoto and the creative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated film unlike anything Illumination has ever made before."

Mario first appeared in the 1981 game Donkey Kong and officially became the main character in Super Mario Bros. in 1985. The game tells the story of Mario, a plumber, and his tall older brother, Luigi, on a journey to rescue Princess Peach from the villain Bowser.
