Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) arrives in every corner of Saigon.

16/02/2026

In the final days of the Year of the Snake, the streets of Saigon are more vibrant than usual, ready to enter the biggest festival season of the year.

The Tet atmosphere is spreading through the streets.

Walking along the embankment through the old District 1 and District 3, one can clearly feel the changes on each street. Free photo spots appear more frequently as Tet approaches. These small displays are created by residents in the neighborhood, utilizing the space in front of their houses and in the alleys for decoration.

In Nhieu Loc ward, several residential areas have invested in decorating entire streets, setting up miniature landscapes along both sides for people to take photos for free. Particularly noteworthy is Alley 115 Nguyen Cong Hoan, where numerous photo spots have been arranged with flowers, flags, lanterns, banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), couplets, etc. Every wall and every empty space has been utilized to create diverse styles. For many, this has become a free spot for taking photos in traditional Vietnamese ao dai dresses amidst the increasingly heated "2026 ao dai photoshoot" leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).

The miniature landscapes are usually set up in easily visible locations, where cars can easily stop, and are convenient for passersby. Some places are completed two weeks before Tet, while others only begin to be adjusted, with lights added and flowers replaced closer to Tet.

This year, Ben Thanh Market became the focal point as the area in front of the main entrance was given a new look. The courtyard was painted a sea-blue color, combined with artificial peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and even real flowers like chrysanthemums and cockscomb. Decorative details such as straw bundles and wooden boats created an atmosphere reminiscent of the Mekong Delta, with images of boats carrying flowers to Saigon during Tet. As a result, the area in front of the market was always crowded, with women in traditional ao dai dresses appearing from midday until late afternoon.
