Origin of formation
Kampung Jodipan's full name is Kampung Warna Warni Jodipan. This village is located in the North of Java Island, Indonesia. Dressed in a colorful rainbow coat, few people know that this place used to be a slum that was about to be demolished due to serious degradation and increasing environmental pollution. The people here were called by the government to move elsewhere because of poor living conditions.
Rainbow Village Originates From a Slum About to Be Dissolved
It wasn’t until a group of students from Muhammadiyah University Malang visited and decided to completely change the appearance of Jodipan that the village was revived. After receiving sponsorship from a local paint distributor, the group called on about 30 local painters and artists to join in and create giant works of art, transforming Kampung Jodipan from a gloomy roof to a colorful one.

The project has magically transformed the once dilapidated village into a vibrant and colorful art space.
The creative idea to change the “shirt” of Jodipan was inspired by the colorful village in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. It is also a slum, but the artists have transformed it into one of the most impressive destinations in Brazil.
