A vibrant Banh Chung (Vietnamese rice cake) Festival at The Cliff Resort & Residences Mui Ne

21/01/2019

On the morning of January 20, 2019, more than 200 tourists from all over the world gathered at The Cliff Resort & Residences, Mui Ne, to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of celebrating the Lunar New Year with traditional activities and games as part of the 6th Banh Chung Festival.

Amidst thatched roofs, bundles of straw, platters of plump watermelons, and the lively sounds of spring drums, visitors donned traditional Vietnamese ethnic costumes such as the ao dai and headscarf, the ao tu than, and the ao ba ba to participate in a banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cake) wrapping competition and learn about Vietnamese culture. The atmosphere was incredibly lively, with many visitors unable to hide their excitement and curiosity as they made traditional Vietnamese banh chung for the first time.

Within the framework of this festival, visitors can also witness elderly calligraphers writing red couplets, artisans creating charming clay figurines, or impressive grasshoppers made from coconut leaves. In addition, traditional Tet dishes such as cabbage roll soup, fried banh chung (Vietnamese sticky rice cake), banh in (Vietnamese rice cake), and various types of sweets and preserves are displayed at stalls for visitors to sample. Particularly, The Cliff's creative banh chung Risotto and banh chung Tapas, made from traditional banh chung, have surprised and delighted many international visitors with their unique, delicious flavor, harmoniously blending Asian and European culinary traditions.

Krystina Pawlowska, a tourist from Poland, said: “This is the first time I’ve learned about and made Vietnamese banh chung (traditional rice cake). Although it was difficult, with the help of the staff, I managed to make two complete cakes. I feel happy and have learned a lot about Vietnamese Tet (Lunar New Year).” Blair Landrigan from Canada, holding two auspicious New Year greetings from a calligrapher, excitedly shared: “The festival atmosphere was wonderful! My children and I enjoyed various Tet sweets and treats, especially the delicious banh chung risotto.”

What The Cliff brought to this year's Banh Chung Festival truly left a deep impression on visitors.
