Anyone "brave" enough to visit Bran Castle in Transylvania, supposedly the home of vampires, will receive a free Covid-19 vaccine without an appointment.

In an announcement last weekend, representatives of Bran Castle in Transylvania, central Romania, said that tourists visiting on weekends in May can receive a free Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer/BionTech without an appointment.

"All those vaccinated will receive a 'vaccination certificate from Bran Castle,' and those who decide to visit the castle will be able to view an exhibition of medieval torture instruments at no extra cost," a castle representative said. People can even get vaccinated for free without entering the castle if they wish.

Completed in 1388 and located outside the city of Brasov, Bran Castle is known as the residence of Count Dracula, the main character in the novel of the same name published in 1897 by the Irish writer Bram Stoker.

Although Bran Castle has long been rumored to be a vampire's lair, information on the castle's website confirms that vampires do not exist. "Visitors to Bran Castle should distinguish between the historical reality of the castle and the Earl character in Bram Stoker's novels. Vampires exist only in the imagination," a Bran Castle representative wrote.

Romania currently has over one million confirmed cases and more than 29,000 deaths due to the novel coronavirus. According to a survey by the research organization Globsec in April, Romanians and Bulgarians tend to be the least vaccinated among participants in a survey of 10 Central and Eastern European countries.
