These are part of the 80 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine that President Joe Biden has pledged to support the world and are the first doses sent to Southeast Asia. The vaccines are being donated through the Covax Program.
The Moderna vaccine, also known as Spikevax, uses the same mRNA technology as Pfizer and was approved by the WHO on April 30. This vaccine is 90% effective in preventing the disease. According to research by American scientists, the Moderna vaccine is highly effective against the Delta variant, which originated in India.
In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has conditionally approved the Spikevax vaccine, or Moderna, to serve the urgent need for epidemic prevention and control. Zuellig Pharma Vietnam Co., Ltd. is the unit that requested the approval.
This vaccine contains 100 mcg mRNA per 0.5 ml dose, formulated as a suspension for intramuscular injection. The packaging is a box containing 10 multi-dose vials; each multi-dose vial contains 10 doses of 0.5 ml.

As of July 6, Vietnam has administered 3,928,001 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Of these, 235,570 people have received two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
On July 7, the first batch of Pfizer vaccine, with about more than 96,000 doses, arrived at Noi Bai International Airport. This is the first batch of Pfizer vaccine to arrive in Vietnam in the plan to supply 31 million doses from now until the end of the year. It is expected that 3 million doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Vietnam in the third quarter. The remaining 28 million doses will arrive in the fourth quarter.
Vietnam has now received a total of nearly 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Of these, nearly 2.5 million doses were supported by Covax, more than 400,000 doses were ordered through VNVC, and about 2 million doses were donated by governments of other countries.
