Two million doses of the Moderna vaccine, donated by the US, are expected to arrive in Vietnam by the end of this week.

These are part of the 80 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine that President Joe Biden pledged to provide to the world, and are the first doses to be sent to Southeast Asia. These vaccines are being provided through the Covax program.

The Moderna vaccine, also known as Spikevax, uses mRNA technology similar to Pfizer's and was approved by the WHO on April 30th. This vaccine is 90% effective in preventing the disease. According to research by American scientists, the Moderna vaccine is highly effective against the Delta variant, which originates from India.

In Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has conditionally approved the Spikevax vaccine, also known as Moderna, to meet the urgent needs of epidemic prevention and control. The Zuellig Pharma Vietnam Co., Ltd. branch was the entity that requested the approval.
