Every year, thousands of tourists flock to East Java to admire the magnificent scenery of the Tengger mountain range with its peaks shrouded in mist.
Indonesian photographer Helminadia Jabur, 36, is one of those who frequently visit East Java to capture images of this unique region: “The volcanoes here are known for their magical beauty at sunrise; the scenery at that time has a surreal quality that cannot be described in words. Since I first witnessed the volcanic landscape here, I often come here to capture these magnificent images.”

This volcanic area is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. It attracts thousands of tourists to East Java Island every year.

The scenery surrounding the volcano is beautiful but also very dangerous; no one dares to live near this area.
Mount Bromo, at 2,329 meters, is located on the Sea of Sands plateau. Although not the highest peak in the entire mountain range, it is considered the most famous.
Every year, hundreds of Indonesians participate in the Yadnya Kasada festival. They climb to the summit of the volcano and throw offerings into its crater.
The origin of this custom stems from a legend that tells of a princess named Roro Anteng who came to this place and founded the country of Tengger with her husband, Joko Seger. The princess and her husband remained childless, so they sought the help of the mountain gods.
The mountain gods agreed to help the princess and her husband. They gifted the couple 24 children. Since then, the princess and her husband often go to the volcano's mouth to thank the mountain gods by throwing offerings into the volcano's crater as a sacrifice to the deities.
Indonesian people today continue to maintain this custom as a way to show respect for the sacred mountain gods.
The Mount Tengger area has been designated a national park since 1919, attracting a large number of tourists to East Java. Now, visitors can participate in hiking expeditions that lead all the way to the crater rim.

Seen from afar, the rocky mountain range is shrouded in clouds, with only the mountain peaks receiving sunlight.

Visitors can hike for about 45 minutes to reach the summit of the volcano or take a jeep tour to explore the surrounding areas.

Photographers often flock to this area to take pictures because it boasts stunning scenery and rare lighting quality.
