Xiaomi - the journey towards 5G
Xiaomi first signaled its 5G solution in early June 2016 by establishing a research and development team dedicated to the 5G standard. As one of the key participants in the 5G testing project organized by China Mobile, Xiaomi successfully tested the n78 signal in September 2018 and completed mmWave (millimeter wave) testing just one month later. At that time, only a few phone manufacturers worldwide had successfully completed this test.

With a mission of innovation, Xiaomi first developed a multi-faceted strategic 5G partnership with major service providers worldwide such as 3, Sunrise, TIM, Vodafone, etc. The next step was to bring 5G to users, and to achieve that, Xiaomi worked tirelessly with providers from the early days of developing the MI MIX 3 5G. With the official announcement of the MI MIX 3 5G, Xiaomi is now one of the first manufacturers to officially commercialize smartphones using 5G. At the time of product launch, Xiaomi demonstrated its readiness for 5G technology by showcasing the MI MIX 3 5G, available on the 5G network provided by Orange Spain.
“Xiaomi has put tremendous effort into developing 5G phone solutions, and the MI MIX 3 5G represents Xiaomi’s mission to create innovative products for everyone,” said Wang Xiang, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi. “We are also pleased and honored to work with our partners to make 5G a reality for everyone around the world.”
Mi MIX 3 5G - Incredible performance for the next generation of mobile connectivity.

Featuring the integrated Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X50 5G modem, the Mi MIX 3 5G can connect to sub-6GHz signals with gigabit download speeds, up to 10 times faster than 4G networks. Furthermore, it's one of the first phones to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, boasting a newly designed cooling system that delivers powerful, stable, and long-lasting performance.
Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform and enhanced cooling system
Inside the Mi MIX 3 is the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, built on a 7nm process. The Qualcomm Kryo 485 CPU with eight cores delivers an excellent balance between performance and power efficiency. Each core is 45% faster than its predecessor, the Qualcomm Adreno™ 640 GPU boosts performance by up to 20%, and the latest 4th generation Qualcomm AI Engine delivers 3x faster AI performance. Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm, shared: “We are thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with Xiaomi to deliver superb 5G speeds and transform the user experience with the latest smartphone, the MI MIX 3 5G.”
The sleek design of MIX 3 5G
To support high-performance applications over extended periods, such as intense team gaming, Xiaomi has also developed an optimized cooling system for the MI MIX 3 5G. The Rogers® HeatSORB™ thermal material incorporates a rapid switching cycle that absorbs heat generated by the device under demanding conditions requiring sustained high performance and heat. Then, passive heat pipes, combined with six layers of graphite, transfer heat three times faster than conventional two-layer graphite systems.
World-class photography capabilities.
The MI MIX 3 5G inherits the 12MP dual AI camera from the MI MIX 3, achieving a DxoMark photography score of 108 points, and is equipped with all the AI features users can expect from Xiaomi phones, including 960 fps slow-motion video recording. For selfies, the MI MIX 3 5G features a 24MP + 2MP dual camera setup, utilizing the excellent Sony IMX576 sensor for enhanced detail. The camera is managed by the Qualcomm Spectra™ 380 ISP, providing a fast and power-efficient shooting experience, allowing users to take even more photos on a single charge.
Xiaomi has launched its flagship duo, the Mi MIX 3 5G and the Mi 9.
The sliding design enhances full-screen display capabilities.
The MI MIX 3 5G uses a magnetic sliding mechanism, providing an excellent interactive experience and flexible customization options. Users can set the sliding action to have different functions, such as answering calls or launching the camera. Thanks to the sliding design, the screen bezels are ultra-thin, resulting in an extremely large screen-to-body ratio. The main highlight is the 6.39” 2340 x 1080 FHD+ Samsung AMOLED display with a screen-to-body ratio of up to 19.5:9.
Mi 9 - flagship with 3 AI cameras
The MI 9 is Xiaomi's first flagship phone to feature three cameras, with the main camera utilizing the latest Sony IMX586 sensor boasting a 48-megapixel resolution and a large 1/2″ sensor size.
Users can take photos with high resolution up to 48MP, or in low light conditions, they can even take clearer and brighter photos because the MI 9 combines four pixels into one, resulting in extremely large pixels up to 1.6μm in size.

The AI triple camera setup, a combination of a main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera, gives the MI 9 a score of 107 as published on the DxOMark website, the second highest score among all phones tested. Additionally, its video recording score reaches 99, the highest score on DxOMark for video capabilities.
A magnificent appearance
The MI 9 features a curved back design, providing a comfortable grip. Enhanced processing on the back creates a stylish rainbow effect, offering a unique look from different angles. On the front, the MI 9 boasts a 6.39-inch 19.5:9 Samsung AMOLED Dot Drop display. Beneath the screen is a brand-new enhanced fingerprint sensor, unlocking the phone 25% faster than its predecessor.

“Inspired by Antoni Gaudi, the beauty of MI 9 combines the reflection of light, smooth curves, and the use of natural elements to create a monolithic architectural art,” said Carlos Canals Roura, President of the Gaudi Institute of Knowledge.
The world's first 20W wireless charger; TÜV certified for safe fast charging.
Inside the MI 9 is a large 3300mAh battery, and it also features fast charging capabilities for both wired and wireless charging. This method has received certification from the prestigious German institute, TUV Rheinland, for its safe fast charging capabilities.
The 27W wired charger supports Qualcomm's QC4+ fast charging standard, allowing the MI 9 to safely charge to 70% in just 30 minutes and fully charge in only 60 minutes. When used with the new 20W Mi Wireless Charging Pad, the MI 9 can be fully charged in just 90 minutes, as fast as some wired charging solutions.
Mi LED Smart Lamp

Xiaomi also announced the Mi LED smart light during its product launch. Featuring 16 million colors and customizable color temperature and brightness, users can control the light remotely via the MI HOME app. Compatible with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, the MI LED smart light will also support Apple Home Kit in Q2 2019.
