This year, the Travel Photographer of the Year 2021 - TPOTY competition continued to attract many entries and submissions, despite travel restrictions due to the pandemic. From 20,000 entries from 151 countries and territories, the judging panel selected the winners in each category. The winning entries are currently on display online on the website.TPOTYIt will also be exhibited at Granary Square, near King's Cross and St Pancras stations (London, England) in April and May of this year.
In the list above, Vietnam has two authors: Tran Viet Van (currently working at Lao Dong newspaper) won second prize in the photo series category "People and Stories," and first prize for the photo taken with a Smartshot iTravelled phone; and author Nguyen Tan Tuan won an honorable mention in the single photo category.
Photographer Tran Viet Van's entry is a series of photos of Mr. Trinh Ngoc, a 90-year-old handcrafted leather shoemaker in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Ngoc studied in Paris (France) and has spent many years making shoes for the Cambodian royal family, as well as famous Vietnamese singers.

Photographer Nguyen Tan Tuan, currently living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, was selected for his photograph of water buffaloes moving in herds to find new grass on Dau Tieng Lake (Tay Ninh) during the dry season. His work was awarded a consolation prize in the Single Photo category of the Portfolio.

The overall winner of TPOTY 2021 is Italian photographer Fortunato Gatto, with his series of nature photographs taken in Scotland.
"Nature is the most wonderful work of art, and that's my aim when I express it. I seek images that reveal the secrets of nature," Gatto shared. The judges commented that Gatto's photographs "show the beauty of nature that we must protect and preserve."

This photograph, taken by photographer F Dilek Uyar (Türkiye), was judged in the Portfolio category: People and Stories.
This work by photographer Jose Fragozo (Portugal) is part of a series of photographs that received an honorable mention in the Living World category.
The work by NAG Zhiyue Shi (China) was given a Special Nomination in the Living World category.
Pally Learmond (UK) won first prize in the Landscape and Adventure singles category with his photograph of a skier on a cliff in Kaines, Alaska (USA). The judges commented that "the photograph combines a breathtaking natural landscape with a captivatingly wild adventurer."
